Advice for Healing After Ateroma Surgery - #48406
Namaste! I had an ateroma and about a month ago it got inflamed, so I had it surgically removed. I was about 3 weeks ago and since then the wound has not healed yet and the lipoma itself seems to be re-forming. There is some reddishness circling the wound, and the skin around is also red and irritated in the places where I apply adhesive plaster. Could you kindly advise if there is any oinment for extrnal aplication that could target these 3 goals - to speed up the healing of the wound, working anticeptically, to soothe irritation and to combat lipoma? Can any of this be of help - Kailas Jeevan, Neem oil, Satadhoutamgrhritam? What are other possible variants? Should the wound be kept under the plaster or just under some gauze patches? I'd be very thankful for all possible suggestions!

What is most likely happening From your description, more than one issue is present: Delayed wound healing (common after an inflamed atheroma) Local inflammation ± mild infection (red halo around the wound) Contact dermatitis from adhesive plaster (red, irritated surrounding skin) Feeling of re-forming lump → often due to residual cyst wall or trapped sebum, not a new lipoma ⚠️ Important truth: No external ointment can dissolve or “remove” a lipoma/atheroma capsule. Ointments help healing, soothe skin, and prevent infection—but if a capsule remains, healing may stall until it’s addressed by the surgeon. When to re-consult the surgeon (important) Please do this promptly if any of the following are present: Increasing redness, warmth, throbbing Pus or foul discharge A firm lump that’s clearly enlarging A small retained capsule sometimes needs re-opening or drainage; ointments alone won’t fix that. Ointments—what helps and what to avoid ✅ Satadhouta Ghrita (Shata-dhauta ghrita) — Best choice Why: Promotes epithelialization (healing) Soothes redness & irritation Gentle antiseptic action Very suitable for post-surgical wounds (when clean) How to use: Clean gently with sterile saline or boiled-cooled water Apply a thin layer on the wound 1–2× daily ⚠️ Neem oil — Use cautiously Pros: Antiseptic Cons: Can be irritating on open/sensitive wounds If you use it: Do not apply on the open wound You may apply around the edges once daily Stop if burning or redness increases ❌ Kailas Jeevan — Avoid for now Thick, occlusive, multi-ingredient Better for boils/cracked skin Can delay surgical wound healing Other safe alternatives (if available) Jatyadi Taila: mild antiseptic, supports healing (thin layer) Calendula ointment (if you use Western herbal options): soothing, healing (Use one product at a time; don’t mix.) Dressing: plaster vs gauze (very important) ❌ Adhesive plaster directly on skin Likely causing contact dermatitis Slows healing ✅ Best approach for you Loose sterile gauze, fixed with paper tape or light bandage Or leave open to air if: No discharge Area is clean No friction from clothing 👉 Wounds do not need to be airtight. Clean air often improves healing. About “combating lipoma” externally Please be aware: ❌ No ointment can remove a lipoma/atheroma If something feels like it’s reforming, it’s usually residual tissue, not inflammation alone Practical plan (simple & safe) Stop adhesive plaster Clean gently once daily Apply Satadhouta Ghrita thinly Cover with loose gauze or leave open if clean If the lump persists or grows → see the surgeon
