It’s great that you are actively monitoring your health and taking steps to manage your condition. The swelling in your legs, arms, and face, along with fluctuating blood pressure, can be common during the later stages of pregnancy, but it’s important to keep them under control. Since there is no protein in your urine, the risk of preeclampsia is lower, but continuing to monitor your blood pressure and symptoms is essential. In Ayurveda, managing water retention and promoting circulation can help with the swelling. You can take Punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa), a herb known for reducing swelling and excess fluid accumulation—500 mg of Punarnava twice daily can help. Additionally, Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris) is useful for maintaining kidney health and managing fluid retention. Drinking warm Jeera (cumin) water can aid digestion and prevent fluid buildup. Gentle massage with Bala oil (Sida cordifolia) on the swollen areas followed by a warm bath may also help relieve swelling. Keep wearing your compression stockings and continue your daily walks, as movement helps improve circulation and reduce edema. In terms of tests, it’s good to regularly check your blood pressure, weight, and consult with your healthcare provider if the swelling or blood pressure worsens. However, if you feel well and your doctor hasn’t advised hospitalization, it’s likely not needed at this moment, but stay vigilant. If your blood pressure continues to rise or new symptoms appear, consult your doctor for additional advice.
Swelling during pregnancy can be a tricky thing, right? Given that your blood pressure has risen a bit, it’s good you’re keeping track. Ayurvedically speaking, swelling is often seen as kapha or vata imbalance, but since there’s no protein in your urine, it’s less likely to be related to more serious conditions like preeclampsia. Keep an eye on your BP though.
Since you’re 37 weeks, there’s generally a lot happening with your body, and it’s getting ready for labor. Swelling can be common but best not to ignore. Walking is great – that it helps reduce swelling is a good sign! Compression stockings are helpful too but don’t wear’em too tight.
Now about the tests: you could consider regular blood pressure checks, which you’re already doing, which is fantastic. There’re other blood tests like liver function or platelet count your doc might recommend to rule out preeclampsia as a precaution, if in doubt consult them.
With diet, it sounds like you’re on the right track, but do keep up with hydration as it also flushes out excess fluid. Luke warm barley water can be handy in reducing swelling. Avoid excessively cold drinks as it may disturb your digestive fire – agni.
Finally, don’t stress too much about your weight at this stage. Your body retains more fluids which could make it seem like your weight isn’t changing much. However, if you suddenly notice more swelling and headaches or see spots, better check with your doctor as soon as you can.
And listen to your body – if it says “rest”, give yourself that pause. Every pregnancy is unique, and keeping in touch with your doc is key.
