Tejal

Hello Tejal, In Ayurveda, your symptoms could indicate an imbalance in the Pitta dosha, which can lead to inflammation in the throat and weakened digestive fire (Agni). To support healing and reduce inflammation, you can try soothing herbs like licorice, honey with turmeric, and gargling with warm salt water. Additionally, incorporating a diet that supports gut health and balances Pitta, such as cooling and easily digestible foods, would be beneficial. Since you’re dealing with acid reflux and allergies as well, focusing on foods that reduce excess acidity, like cooked vegetables, whole grains, and avoiding fried, spicy, or acidic foods, might help. Could you share if you’ve had any tests for bacterial or fungal overgrowth in the gut, as this can often be a side effect of prolonged antibiotic use? Also, how is your digestion and elimination, and have you noticed any changes in your weight or energy levels since the infections started?

Your situation sounds quite challenging, and it’s understandable that you’d want to explore non-surgical options for your throat and tonsils. In Ayurveda, the condition of swollen tonsils and a persistent throat issue can reflect an imbalance in the Kapha and Pitta doshas, often linked to ama (toxins) and digestive fire or agni issues. Given your history of extensive antibiotic use, it’s crucial to gradually restore your digestive health and support your immune system.

To begin with, try incorporating triphala into your routine. Triphala is a traditional Ayurvedic formulation that helps to gently detox the body and enhance digestion. You can take triphala churna (powder) – mix about half a teaspoon with warm water and consume it at night before bed. This can aid in restoring your digestive strength over time.

Strengthening the immune system is equally important, and herbs like mulethi (licorice root) can be beneficial for soothing a sore throat. Prepare a decoction by boiling a teaspoon of mulethi powder in water and sipping it once it cools to a lukewarm temperature. However, if you have high blood pressure, use mulethi cautiously as it can elevate blood pressure.

Gargling with warm salt water, to which a pinch of turmeric has been added, can help reduce inflammation and clear throat issues. Make sure the salt does not dry out the throat; a balance is key. You may do this a couple of times a day, after meals.

Diet-wise, focus on easily digestible foods. Warm, cooked meals are generally better than cold or raw foods. Incorporating spices such as ginger, black pepper, and turmeric can help kindle agni and reduce excessive Kapha. Drinking hot water throughout the day can also aid in flushing out toxins and balancing the immune system.

For weight loss, in addition to maintaining a diet that supports agni, consider light exercises like brisk walking. Start slow, aiming for short durations and gradually increasing your stamina. Losing weight has shown impact on reducing obstructive conditions, hence benefitting throat health indirectly.

Avoid known Kapha-dominant foods, such as dairy, cold drinks, and excessive sweets. Ensure you stay hydrated but avoid cold water, opt for lukewarm or hot water instead.

Given your BMI being 46.9, any lifestyle change should be gradual to avoid unnecessary strain on the body. Work with healthcare professionals to formulate a plan that’s both safe and effective over the long term. If symptoms persist or worsen, consultation with health professionals becomes imperative to manage underlying conditions effectively.
