Proteinuria with anemia can indicate underlying kidney issues, often linked to conditions like chronic kidney disease (CKD), diabetes, or hypertension. In Ayurveda, it is viewed as an imbalance in Pitta and Kapha doshas, leading to weakened kidney function and poor blood quality (Rakta dhatu depletion). Hello Basant, Hello,

Protein leakage (proteinuria) and elevated sugar levels indicate possible kidney stress, often linked to diabetes. Given your current use of allopathic medicine for diabetes, it’s essential to carefully manage your blood sugar levels, as they can exacerbate kidney issues over time. Could you share more about your diet, lifestyle, and any other symptoms, such as swelling, frequent urination, or fatigue? Additionally, have any other tests been done to assess kidney function, like creatinine or GFR (glomerular filtration rate)?

In Ayurveda, the primary goal is to strengthen kidney function and balance blood sugar. Herbs like Gokshura, Punarnava, Shatavari, and Ashwagandha are used to support kidney health, reduce protein leakage, and regulate sugar levels. A gentle detox regimen using Triphala and consuming a diet low in salt and high in fiber can also help in managing these conditions.

When managing proteinuria alongside diabetes, Ayurveda can offer supportive treatments, but it’s essential to work closely with your healthcare provider since you are already under allopathic care. In Ayurveda, we consider the balance of doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—as well as Agni (digestive fire) and the dhatus (body tissues). Kidney disorders often involve an imbalance of Vata and Kapha.

First, let’s talk about diet: try to include light and easy-to-digest foods while minimizing spicy, oily, and heavy meals. Incorporate fresh vegetables like bitter gourd and pumpkin, as these help in managing blood sugar levels. Avoid foods high in protein and sodium, such as red meat and processed foods, as they can put additional stress on the kidneys.

Now, for herbal remedies, Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia) can help in balancing your system. It’s known for its anti-inflammatory and blood-purifying properties. You can take Guduchi in tablet form, usually twice a day after meals, but always consult an Ayurvedic practitioner for the correct dosage.

Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris) is another herb that’s often recommended to support kidney health. It helps in reducing inflammation and has diuretic properties. You can take it in powder form, a teaspoon mixed with warm water, preferably in the morning.

Lifestyle modifications are also crucial. Regular practice of gentle yoga and pranayama can help in stress management, which may indirectly support kidney health. Try to find time daily for meditation.

However, it’s vital to continue monitoring your condition closely with your doctor. If symptoms worsen or if you notice any new ones, seek medical attention immediatly. Ayurveda can be a complementary approach, but never stop or alter your prescribed allopathic medications without medical advice.
