Hey, I’m really sorry to hear about your ITP diagnosis and the whole journey with steroids. That must’ve been pretty intense. Dropping off steroids is a big step, and it’s great that you’re looking for other ways to get those platelets up.
In Ayurveda, everything’s about balance, right? With ITP, we’re likely dealing with some pitta imbalance, maybe even rakta dhatu affecting your blood tissue. We wanna calm that fiery pitta and nourish the blood. Let’s talk about some ways you could support this.
Start with your diet — crucial part, honestly. Consider foods that are cooling, easy on the digestion, and nourishing to the blood. Coconut water, aloe vera juice (take a tablespoon with water on an empty stomach), amla, and pomegranate are beneficial. They’re not just tasty, but they can help soothe and nourish. Avoid spicy, oily, and overly salty foods which can aggravate pitta and delay healing.
Adding turmeric is often recommended, but since your situation is delicate and turmeric has blood-thinning properties, best to check in with your ayurvedic doctor before diving in. Also, beetroot can be your friend here. It’s nurturing for the blood. You could try grated beetroot salad a few times a week.
Herbal-wise, consider Guduchi (Tinospora Cordifolia). It’s fantastic for boosting immunity and harmonizing pitta. But remember, with herbs, it’s best to consult directly with an ayurvedic practitioner, someone who can assess you in person, before starting a new regimen.
Rest is super, super important. Protect your energy, really. Gentle yoga or meditation can help the mind and body repair. Also, consider avoiding excessive screen time, which can heat the eyes and indirectly aggravate pitta.
Keep an eye on any heavy symptoms or changes, and don’t hesitate to chat with your healthcare team when needed. Safety first, always. Take care!
