Is Reverse Osmosis Water Safe for My Vata-Pitta Imbalance? - #39951

Client_3c469e

Hello, a reverse osmotic water purifying device has been set installed in my home. The water is acidic and has a very low mineral matter content. Do you suggest to drink this water and cook with it, or minerals should be added before use? What mineral content of water is considered beneficial and healthy? I am a Vata-Pitta person with Vata and Pitta imbalances. Thanks for your answer in advance, Best regards, Judit Koch

It’s better to use boiled water instead of R O water.

Reverse osmosis (RO) water, which is typically low in mineral content and possibly acidic, may not be ideal for those with Vata-Pitta imbalances. Ayurveda emphasizes maintaining balance and harmony in the body’s doshas through appropriate intake of food and water. For your Vata-Pitta condition, ensuring the water you consume supports balance is crucial.

Vata imbalances may manifest as dryness, irregular digestion, and anxiety, while Pitta imbalances might show up as irritation, skin issues, and indigestion. Both doshas benefit from water that’s mildly alkaline and rich in essential minerals. RO water’s demineralization may actually exacerbate Vata dryness and Pitta acidity due to its lack of grounding and cooling properties.

To make RO water more suitable, you might consider re-mineralization. Adding minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium could help maintain a moderate pH and support dosha balance. You can achieve this by using a re-mineralizing filter or adding drops of trace minerals, available at health stores. A moderate mineral content, typically 150-400 ppm (parts per million), can be beneficial as it supports hydration and normal physiological functions, crucial for balancing Vata and cooling Pitta.

Moreover, you could enhance the water by infusing it with cooling herbs like mint or fennel to pacify Pitta and using a pinch of cardamom or ginger to calm Vata. Cooking with mineralized water is also recommended to ensure the foods you consume doesn’t deplete minerals further.

Remember, It’s important to observe how your body responds to changes, and adjust accordingly. Monitoring the impact of water quality on your doshas and making necessary modifications will be key in supporting your health and well-being.
