Recurrent vaginal yeast infections can be frustrating, and there could be several reasons why you’re experiencing this. According to Ayurveda, the first step is assessing your dosha balance and understanding your prakriti. Yeast infections are often linked to an imbalance in the Kapha dosha, leading to excessive moisture and lack of heat in the body.

First, consider your diet. Minimize the intake of foods that increase Kapha, such as dairy, sweets, and heavy, oily foods. Instead, focus on a diet rich in fresh vegetables, whole grains like barley and millet, and legumes. Turmeric, with its anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties, can be beneficial—use it in your cooking or have a little warm water with a pinch of turmeric daily.

Hydration is key, but try warm water throughout the day instead of cold water, as it can help maintain a good digestive fire (agni) and support the expulsion of toxins. Addging ginger or cinnamon to your water can also help improve digestion and manage the Kapha imbalance.

Yoni prakshalana (vaginal wash) with triphala decoction could provide relief as well. Boil some triphala powder in water; once it cools down, use it as a gentle wash regularly to maintain cleanliness and balance. However, be careful not to overdo it, as excessive washing can lead to irritation.

Consider avoiding tight-fit clothing and opt for cotton underwear to help keep the area dry and well-ventilated. Ensure that you’re changing out of wet clothes, like swimsuits or gym clothes, as soon as possible to avoid creating a moist environment.

Avoid stress as much as possible, as it can aggravate the persistent imbalance. Regular practice of pranayama or meditation can be very useful.

Finally, since you have tried over-the-counter medications, and if infections are repeating despite these interventions, it’s imperative to consult with a healthcare practitioner. They can provide tailored advice based on a thorough examination of your specific condition and needs. This way, you can ensure there isn’t a more serious underlying issue that needs addressing.
