Doctors' responses

If you were already having digestive issues like bloating earlier, taking cayenne pepper powder could have aggravated your symptoms. Cayenne pepper is very heating and pungent in nature. According to Ayurveda, excess intake of such substances can irritate the stomach and aggravate Pitta, which may lead to symptoms like acidity, gastritis, bloating, abdominal discomfort and decreased appetite. In people with a sensitive stomach, this can sometimes disturb digestion for a longer period. The first step would be to stop taking the cayenne pepper powder and avoid foods that can further irritate the stomach. For some time, try to keep your diet very simple and easy to digest so that your gut can settle. You can follow some basic measures like: Avoid spicy, oily, fried and very sour foods Avoid processed foods, cheese and raw salads for some time Prefer simple foods like rice, moong dal, light khichdi and well-cooked vegetables Take smaller meals at regular intervals instead of heavy meals, Only eat when you are hungry do not force meals on yourself. Drink lukewarm water rather than very hot or cold drinks Coconut water, fennel water or diluted buttermilk (if it suits you) may also help soothe digestion Since you have been facing these symptoms for more than 6 months and your appetite has also reduced, it would be better to get a proper evaluation of your digestion before starting any medicines. If you want, you can consult me here for a detailed Ayurvedic assessment, where we can look at your digestion (Agni), diet and lifestyle and plan treatment accordingly.
