Heavy periods accompanied by pain can be deeply distressing, and it’s essential to approach this condition with sensitivity, understanding your individual needs. From an Ayurvedic perspective, menstrual issues can often be due to imbalances in the doshas, especially Pitta and Vata. Considering you’ve identified your prakriti (constitution) as having more heat, it’s likely that pitta imbalance is a contributing factor, causing the intensity and duration of your cycle.

First, it’s good to focus on pacifying Pitta to find some relief. Dietary adjustments can significantly help in this regard. Include foods such as cucumbers, melons, and other cooling fruits. Avoid spicy, fermented, and fried foods as they can aggravate pitta. Including coriander and fennel teas in your daily routine might help to cool the body internally.

Managing stress and promoting relaxation through lifestyle changes, like regular practices of yoga and meditation, can bring balance and alleviate symptoms. Gentle, restorative yoga poses are particularly beneficial as they maintain energy without aggravating Pitta. Adding pranayama practices, such as Sheetali or Sheetkari, can offer cooling effects that help calm the body.

Herbal remedies also offer relief. Shatavari and Ashoka are renowned for supporting women’s health. Shatavari, being a cooling adaptogen, nourishes and soothes the body’s systems, whereas Ashoka is known for its benefits in managing heavy bleeding. A practitioner should guide the right dosages for you.

Regular abhyanga (oil massage) with cooling oils like coconut or sunflower oil can help in balancing Pitta and also soothe Vata, providing comfort from pain related to menstrual periods.

Remember, these are supportive measures. Given your anemia and B12 deficiency, it’s crucial you address these concurrently as deficiencies can exacerbate symptoms. Consider consulting with a practitioner specialized in Ayurveda to have a plan that’s robust and tailored to your constitution and health needs.
