What treatment can be followed for viral Bell’s palsy…my friends mother on aciclovir and steriods, seeing some improvement but she want complete recovey.

Divya Vatari Churna - 50 grams Divya Amrita Sat - 10 grams Divya Ashwagandha Churna - 50 grams Divya Mahavatvindhwansan Rasa - 01 gram Divya Pravala Pishti - 10 grams. Mix all the medicines. Take one teaspoon of the mixture half an hour before breakfast and dinner with lukewarm water. Ashwashila Capsules - Take 1 capsules twice a day, half-an-hour after breakfast and dinner with Luke warm water. Peedantaka Oil - 100 ml Massage with the oil on the painful area, 2-3 times in a day. Ashwagandharishta - 450 ml Mix 4 teaspoons of medicine in 4 teaspoons of water and take after lunch and dinner.

Bell’s palsy, being a condition where sudden weakness in facial muscles occurs, can be quite distressing. It’s great that your friend’s mother is seeing some improvement already. In Ayurveda, we view this condition as a potential imbalance primarily related to Vata dosha, which could be impacting the nervous functions. While continuing with her prescribed medications, some Ayurvedic practices could complement the treatment and support recovery.

Practically, Nasya, an Ayurvedic therapy involving nasal administration of medicated oils, can be beneficial. Applying Anu Taila in the nostrils, just 2-3 drops per nostril, every morning can help pacify Vata and strengthen nerves. Gently massage the affected side of the face with Mahanarayan Taila — it’s believed to improve local circulation and provide nourishment to impaired nerves.

Dietary choices matter too. Warm, cooked foods that are mildly spiced with ingredients like ginger, cumin, and ajwain (carom seeds) are advised. They enhance digestion (Agni) and balance Vata. Avoid cold, raw, and excessively dry foods.

Adding light pranayama practices like Anulom Vilom (alternate nostril breathing) can help her. It’s simple — inhale deeply through the left nostril while closing the right one with thumb, exhale through right nostril keeping the left nostril closed, continue for few minutes daily.

Consider consulting a qualified Ayurvedic doctor locally; they can tailor a Panchakarma therapy — like gentle Basti (medicated enema) to harmonize Vata — according to her constitution and condition. Remember not to rush things. Complete recovery may take time — persistence is the key alongside medical supervision to ensure comprehensive healing.
