The changes in your menstrual duration and flow could be related to various factors. In Ayurveda, when the natural balance of the body is disrupted, it can affect your menstrual cycle. The dosha that most commonly impacts menstrual health is Vata. When Vata is imbalanced, it can lead to irregular periods, shorter flow, and other changes. Now, let’s look into some detailed recommendations that could help address this imbalance.

First, your diet plays a fundamental role. To help balance Vata, make sure you’re consuming foods that are warm, moist, and full of nourishment. Include cooked vegetables like sweet potatoes, carrots, and beets, which are grounding. Add some healthy fats such as ghee or olive oil to your meals. Also, incorporate whole grains and warm spices like cinnamon and ginger, which can help soothe Vata.

Regularity in your lifestyle is just as critical. Try to wake up and sleep at the same time every day. Daily self-massage with warm sesame oil can be deeply nourishing for Vata. Make sure you’re staying hydrated throughout the day, and consider drinking warm water or herbal teas. Chamomile and fennel tea are excellent choices for their calming properties.

Physical movement should be gentle. Yoga, particularly poses like Child’s Pose and Forward Bends, can be very beneficial. A short, daily walk taken mindfully can also help.

Manage stress, as it often exacerbates Vata imbalance. Practice deep breathing or meditation for at least ten minutes daily. Pranayama techniques like Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) can be especially calming.

While these recommendations may help restore balance, it’s important to rule out any underlying health conditions, so consulting with a healthcare provider or an Ayurvedic practitioner in person would be wise. They can provide a personalized assessment and recommend further appropriate measures, including herbal supplements if necessary. If you experince any immediate concerns or unusual symptoms, seek medical advice right away.
