can we take shatavari during periods - #25600

Isabella

I am really confused about something. I've been reading a lot about shatavari recently, and honestly, I thought it was just supposed to be this amazing herbal supplement, but now I'm not so sure. Just last month, I started taking shatavari to help with my overall health, you know, like mood swings and energy levels around that time of the month. But then I heard someone mention that **can we take shatavari during periods**? Like, is it safe? I mean, my periods can be super heavy and painful, and I thought maybe this could help with that too. Also, I noticed that when I was taking it, I felt a bit bloated, which might be related or maybe it's just me? I wanna make sure I’m not doing anything wrong. Any advice or insight on this would be a huge help. Can we take shatavari during periods, and if yes, what dosage works best? Thanks! Super appreciate anyone who can share their experience!

You can take shatavari during your periods, as it is generally considered safe and beneficial for menstrual health. Shatavari, or Asparagus racemosus, is widely used in Ayurveda for its adaptogenic and nourishing qualities, especially for the female reproductive system. It’s believed to help balance hormones, support energy levels, and ease mood swings, which might explain why you’ve noticed some improvement.

Regarding heavy and painful periods, shatavari could potentially offer support. Its cooling nature can soothe inflammation and help manage vata-pitta imbalances, which are often linked to menstrual discomfort. For those experiencing bloating, it’s possible this herb contributes to mild water retention, though individual reactions can vary. Consider monitoring your symptoms and adjusting the dose or formulation if necessary.

Typical dosage of shatavari, when taken as a powder, is about 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon mixed with warm water or milk, once or twice daily. It might be more digestible when consumed after meals. If you’re using a capsule form, it’s important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions or consult a practitioner for personalized guidance.

Ensure you’re maintaining a balanced routine during your cycle. Avoid excessively spicy, oily, or heavy foods, as they can exacerbate symptoms. Prefer light, warm, and easily digestible meals to support your agni (digestive fire). South Indian dishes like kichari or dhal soup are gentle options that won’t burden digestion.

Also, consider taking time to rest and relax during this period. Gentle yoga or meditation may help in reducing stress and promoting better hormonal balance. Get enough sleep, as rest is crucial in maintaining equilibrium within the body.

Before making substantial changes to your routine, it’s wise to consult with your healthcare provider, especially if you have underlying health issues or are on medication. This ensures safety and compatibility with existing treatments and avoids any unforeseen interactions.
