Menstrual cycle related, lesser flow - #30414

Anu

I am 28 year old unmarried girl. My periods are always on time. Not late sometimes earlier. But from 1-2 months I am noticing lesser flow like they used to come for 5 days now only for 4 days and used to use 3 pads a day now only needed two so a bit change in flow. Is it normal or can you suggest some ayurvedic or home remedies to increase flow.

Changes in menstrual flow can be due to several factors, and it’s worth understanding the possible reasons before jumping into remedies. Being 28 and having such a shift, one should consider lifestyle changes or stress levels. Sometimes even minor changes in daily routine, diet, or emotional stress can impact flow. Ayurveda looks at menstruation through the lens of doshas—imbalances in Vata can cause dryness and light flow, while Pitta might lead to excessive flow. It seems from your decreased flow that an imbalance mainly involving Vata might be there.

First, focus on diet—incorporate warm, cooked, and easy-to-digest foods. Think of vegetables like sweet potatoes, beets, and carrots, which nourish the body and support the reproductive system. Processed foods, cold and raw foods should be minimized. Ghee is an excellent addition to meals, as it pacifies Vata and nurtures tissues deep within.

Hydration also plays a role, so ensure you’re drinking warm water or herbal teas, ginger or cumin tea can be particularly beneficial. Exercise is also crucial, but it should be moderate and not exhaustive. Opt for yoga, especially poses that focus on the pelvic area like Baddha Konasana, as they can enhance circulation and alleviate congestion.

Herbs can have a beneficial effect chat should be approached with caution. Ashoka and Shatavari have been traditionally used to support female reproductive health and should be taken under guidance. Applying a sasame oil massage on the lower abdomen and feet can also work wonders in balancing Vata.

Should these symptoms persist or you notice other changes, it’s advisable to consult an Ayurvedic practitioner or healthcare professional to tailor recommendations further to your specific constitution. Recognizing the body’s signals ensures that appropriate and timely adjustments are implemented for overall balance.

A change in menstrual flow can be quite normal and varies from person to person due to many factors. It can be due to stress, diet, or even minor hormonal fluctuations. However, from an Ayurvedic perspective, this reduction in flow could indicate an imbalance in the Vata and Pitta doshas in your body, leading to a disturbance in the proper function of the reproductive system.

First, make sure to examine any recent changes in lifestyle or diet. Stress and irregular eating habits can affect the menstrual cycle significantly. Aiming for a balanced diet that includes ample fresh vegetables, whole grains, and adequate hydration is vital. Including ghee in your meals can help balance Vata and Pitta. Try having a teaspoon of ghee in the morning on an empty stomach, followed by warm water.

For a more specific remedy, consider Dashamoola tea. Dashamoola is known for its ability to balance Vata dosha and strengthen the reproductive system. You can prepare it by boiling Dashamoola powder, which you can find in Ayurvedic stores, in water and consuming it once a day during your menstrual cycle.

Practicing regular yoga and pranayama can also help in balancing your doshas and improving blood flow. Particular asanas like Baddha Konasana (Bound Angle Pose) and Supta Baddha Konasana (Reclining Bound Angle Pose) are quite beneficial. These help in opening the pelvic region, encouraging better unwanted outcomes blood flow.

It might be worth checking your routine and making sure to include a consistent sleep schedule and limiting consumption of caffeine and fried foods, both of which can aggravate Vata and Pitta.

If the issue persists or if bleeding reduces further, consulting with a local Ayurvedic physician or a healthcare provider would ensure you receive personalized advice. Ensure they rule out any underlying health concerns that might need more immediate attention. Using Ayurvedic approaches can greatly enhance your cycle, yet being vigilant and sensible to your body’s signals is key in any matter related to your health.
