Ayurvedic Treatment for Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a condition that has been affecting a family member for some time now, and although they are undergoing conventional medical treatment, the progress has been slow. While researching alternative approaches, I came across Ayurvedic treatment for glaucoma, which focuses on holistic healing and natural remedies to manage this condition. I’m keen to understand how Ayurveda addresses glaucoma, its treatment methodologies, and how it can complement ongoing treatments. In Ayurveda, glaucoma is often associated with increased pressure within the eye, known as raised intraocular pressure (IOP), and is linked to an imbalance of Pitta and Vata doshas. How does Ayurveda explain the underlying causes of glaucoma? Are factors like lifestyle, stress, and diet considered major contributors, and how are these addressed through Ayurvedic therapies? One of the key aspects of Ayurvedic treatment for glaucoma seems to be detoxification and rejuvenation therapies. Does this involve Panchakarma procedures like Nasyam (nasal therapy) or Virechana (purgation therapy)? How effective are these treatments in reducing eye pressure, improving vision, and preventing further damage to the optic nerve? I’ve also read about herbal remedies like Triphala, Amalaki, and Ashwagandha being used for managing glaucoma. Do these herbs work to lower intraocular pressure, or do they primarily strengthen the overall eye structure and optic nerve? Are there specific herbal eye drops or decoctions that can be applied or consumed to support eye health in glaucoma patients? Another question I have is about the safety and compatibility of Ayurvedic treatments for glaucoma. Can these therapies be used alongside conventional treatments, such as eye drops or surgeries, without causing interference? Are there any precautions or contraindications for individuals with advanced glaucoma or other coexisting conditions like diabetes? Lastly, if anyone has experience with Ayurvedic treatment for glaucoma, I’d love to hear about the results. How effective was the treatment, and how long did it take to notice improvements? Any tips on finding experienced Ayurvedic practitioners or authentic herbal products for glaucoma management would also be helpful.

Ayurveda addresses glaucoma by focusing on balancing the Pitta and Vata doshas, which are believed to contribute to the condition, especially in cases of increased intraocular pressure (IOP). Lifestyle factors, stress, and diet are seen as major contributors, with Ayurveda emphasizing detoxification and rejuvenation therapies to restore balance. Panchakarma procedures like Nasyam (nasal therapy) and Virechana (purgation) are often used to reduce eye pressure and support eye health. Herbal remedies such as Triphala, Amalaki, and Ashwagandha may help lower IOP and strengthen the optic nerve. These can be used in conjunction with conventional treatments, like eye drops or surgery, but it’s important to consult a healthcare provider to ensure compatibility. Ayurveda also offers herbal eye drops and decoctions for managing glaucoma. While the results may take time to show, many people find success with Ayurvedic therapies. For those seeking treatment, working with an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner and sourcing authentic herbs is recommended for effective management.

Nasyam Therapy

I’ve been dealing with chronic sinus issues for years – constant congestion, sinus headaches, and this annoying feeling of pressure around my eyes. A friend recommended nasyam therapy, saying it’s a powerful Ayurvedic treatment for clearing the nasal passages and improving overall respiratory health. I’m curious but also a bit hesitant because I’ve never tried anything like it before. From what I understand, nasyam therapy involves administering herbal oils or powders through the nose. How exactly does it work, and is it safe for someone with sensitive sinuses like mine? I’ve used nasal sprays in the past, but they only give temporary relief, and I worry about long-term side effects. Does nasyam therapy offer more permanent results by addressing the root cause? Another thing I’m wondering is whether nasyam therapy is only for sinus problems or if it has other benefits. I’ve been feeling really foggy and forgetful lately, and I read somewhere that it can help with mental clarity and even improve sleep. Is that true? Also, how do you prepare for nasyam therapy? Do you need to follow any specific routine before or after the treatment to get the best results? I’ve heard it’s sometimes done as part of Panchakarma – does that mean it has to be done in a clinic, or are there simpler home-based versions? Lastly, are there any side effects to watch out for with nasyam therapy? I’m worried about feeling discomfort or irritation during or after the procedure. If anyone has tried nasyam therapy, I’d love to know about your experience. How soon did you notice improvements, and is it something that needs to be repeated regularly?

Nasyam therapy is an Ayurvedic treatment that involves the administration of herbal oils or powders through the nose, designed to clear sinus passages, improve respiratory health, and even enhance mental clarity. For someone with sensitive sinuses, it can be safe, but it's important to choose the right oils or powders and ensure the procedure is done with proper guidance. Nasyam targets the root cause of sinus issues by balancing doshas and cleansing the nasal passages, offering potentially more long-term relief compared to conventional nasal sprays. It’s also known to improve sleep and mental clarity, as the therapy stimulates prana (vital life energy) in the head and neck region. Typically done as part of Panchakarma, nasyam can also be practiced at home with supervision, although clinic-based treatments often offer more comprehensive care. To prepare for nasyam, you may need to follow a light diet, stay hydrated, and possibly use steam inhalation before treatment. Side effects are rare, but irritation or discomfort may occur if the therapy isn’t done correctly. Improvements in symptoms like sinus pressure, mental fog, and congestion are usually noticed within a few sessions, but regular treatment may be needed for long-term benefits. It’s advisable to consult an Ayurvedic practitioner before starting nasyam therapy to ensure it's suitable for your needs.

Low Blood Pressure Symptoms

For the past few months, I’ve been feeling extremely weak, lightheaded, and sometimes even a little confused. I also get these sudden dizzy spells when I stand up too fast. At first, I thought it was just fatigue or stress, but when I checked my blood pressure at home, it was way lower than normal. My doctor said I have low blood pressure symptoms, but they didn’t seem too concerned since my levels weren’t dangerously low. The thing is, I feel awful most of the time. I wake up feeling drained, and my hands and feet are always cold. Sometimes, I even feel like I might faint, especially in hot weather. I also noticed that after meals, I get even dizzier—could digestion be affecting my low blood pressure symptoms? I read that Ayurveda looks at digestion and circulation together, so I’m wondering if my diet could be making it worse. I also have a history of anemia, which might be related. Can anemia worsen low blood pressure symptoms? If so, are there Ayurvedic remedies to improve circulation and boost my energy levels naturally? I’ve heard of Ashwagandha and Shatavari for energy—do they help with low blood pressure symptoms? How should I take them? Another concern is my salt intake. I’ve read that people with low blood pressure symptoms should eat more salt, but I don’t want to overdo it. Does Ayurveda suggest any specific salty foods that can naturally help with blood pressure without harming the body? Doctor, I really want to feel normal again and stop dealing with constant dizziness and weakness. Can Ayurveda help bring my blood pressure back to a balanced level? Are there herbs, diet changes, or lifestyle modifications that can help me manage low blood pressure symptoms effectively?

Your symptoms suggest a possible combination of low blood pressure and anemia, which can indeed exacerbate feelings of weakness, dizziness, and confusion. Ayurvedically, it is essential to nourish your body and restore balance. Given your cold extremities and faintness, you may have a Kapha-Vata imbalance, indicating a need for warmth and nourishment. Let's address your concerns comprehensively. For digestion, which affects your blood pressure, consider incorporating warm, cooked meals that are easy to digest. Opt for soups, stews, and easily digestible grains like rice and quinoa. Spices like ginger, cumin, and black pepper can stimulate digestion and enhance your agni (digestive fire). To address anemia, consume iron-rich foods such as cooked dark leafy greens (like spinach or kale), lentils, chickpeas, and dates. Pair these with vitamin C sources like citrus fruits to enhance iron absorption. Herbs like Ashwagandha and Shatavari can indeed support your energy levels and vitality. You can take 1 teaspoon of Ashwagandha powder mixed with warm milk or water once or twice daily. For Shatavari, similarly, take about 1 teaspoon with warm water or milk, ideally in the morning and evening. Always consult your healthcare provider before starting any new supplements. Regarding salt, it is true that moderation is key. Add natural salty foods like miso, sea vegetables (like nori or kombu), and rock salt in moderate amounts to your dishes, as they can help elevate blood pressure without excessive salt intake. Incorporate short walks and gentle stretches into your daily routine to improve circulation. Ensure you stay hydrated, drinking warm fluids throughout the day, particularly during hot weather. Lastly, consider practicing breathing exercises and mindfulness to reduce stress, which can further improve your overall well-being. By following these Ayurvedic principles and remedies, you should gradually feel an improvement in your energy levels and the management of your symptoms. Be patient, and monitor your symptoms as you adjust your diet and lifestyle.

A massive thank you to Dr. Harsha and this forum, honestly, I still can’t believe I’m finally better. For years I was dealing with this awful pain in my lower back and hips, especially when I sat for more than 10 minutes. It felt like someone stabbing me over and over. I couldn’t work properly, couldn’t enjoy family dinners, even short car rides were unbearable. I tried so many things—physiotherapy, meds, chiropractors, acupuncture, even weird devices that claimed to fix back pain. Nothing worked. I was so frustrated and kind of gave up, thinking maybe this is just my life now. Then, randomly one night, I found this forum. I didn’t expect much but thought I’d give it a try. Dr. Harsha replied to my question, and honestly, her response felt so personal. She explained everything clearly how my problem might be connected to imbalances in my body and not just something physical. She gave me a plan: some yoga stretches, herbal oils for massage, and a few Ayurvedic supplements. She even suggested small lifestyle changes, like how to sit better and take regular breaks during the day. I didn’t think it would work, but after a couple of weeks, I started to notice the pain easing. Sitting didn’t hurt as much, and my back felt looser. Over the next couple of months, the pain kept getting better. Now, I can sit through a whole day at work, go out with friends, and even travel without worrying about pain. Dr. Harsha, you’ve honestly changed my life. Thank you so much for your help and to this forum for connecting me with her!

A huge thank you to Dr. Sujal and this amazing forum! I honestly never thought I’d find relief from the problem I was dealing with for so long. For years, I struggled with terrible digestive issues bloating, stomach cramps, and this constant feeling of heaviness after every meal. It didn’t matter what I ate, even the so-called “healthy” stuff would mess me up. Some days I’d feel fine, and then the next, I’d be in so much discomfort I couldn’t even focus on work or enjoy time with my family. I tried everything antacids, probiotics, different diets, cutting out foods one by one nothing worked for more than a week or two. Doctors just kept saying it was IBS and gave me more meds, but I was tired of taking pills that didn’t actually fix anything. Then I randomly came across this forum, while scrolling late at night looking for help. I posted my story, not really expecting much, but Dr. Sujal replied, and wow, I’m so glad she did. Her advice was so practical and made sense in a way no one else had explained before. She said my issues could be related to weak digestion and recommended a complete Ayurvedic approach to strengthen it. She suggested drinking warm water with a bit of ginger and lemon first thing in the morning, avoiding cold or raw foods, and eating lighter meals in the evening. She also told me to use some herbal powders like Trikatu to boost my digestion and add a few specific spices like cumin and fennel to my cooking. She even taught me some breathing exercises to help calm my gut when I felt stressed. Within a week of following her plan, I started feeling lighter, and my bloating reduced significantly. Over the next month, the cramps completely stopped, and I could eat meals without that horrible heavy feeling afterward. I honestly can’t believe how much better I feel now, and I haven’t touched an antacid in weeks! Dr. Sujal, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You didn’t just help me heal physically but also gave me confidence that I can manage my health naturally. This forum is a blessing, and I’m so glad I found it!
