In Ayurveda, this reaction is understood through Vata–Kapha imbalance affecting the Mutravaha Srotas (urinary channels). Why it happens: Castor oil (Eranda Taila) is guru (heavy), snigdha (oily), and ushna (warming). When applied on the perineum (Guda–Sevani area) at night, it can: Create local heaviness and mild swelling (Kapha increase) Slightly obstruct the urinary flow (Mutra vaha srotas avarodha) Disturb Apana Vata, which controls urination → leading to hesitation or difficulty passing urine Why more at night? Night time is Kapha-dominant, so oil application may increase stagnation and slow down flow. What you should do: 1. Stop or reduce use Avoid applying castor oil on perineum at night If needed, use it during daytime only or 2–3 times/week 2. Use lighter alternatives Prefer sesame oil (Tila Taila) in small quantity, gently applied 3. Support Apana Vata Drink warm water before bed Do not hold urine urge Mild Triphala at night (if suitable) to regulate Vata 4. Simple Ayurvedic support (if needed) Gokshura or Punarnava (under guidance) for urinary flow balance

Much appreciated, thank you.
Castor oil (eranda taila) is heavy, penetrating and heating in nature. When you apply it on a sensitive area like the perineum at night, it can sometimes cause local swelling, pressure effect, or temporary nerve/bladder irritation. Because of this: Bladder outlet can feel slightly tight Urge may come but flow becomes delayed More noticeable at night when body is relaxed So this is not because it is improving blood flow — rather in your case, it is causing mild obstruction-like sensation. Important: This means castor oil is not suitable for you for this application, especially daily use. What to do: Stop applying castor oil on perineum for now. If you want to continue external support, use lighter oils: Coconut oil or sesame oil (very small quantity, gentle application) Avoid applying anything just before sleep. If needed, apply earlier in evening. Routine: Do not hold urine. Empty bladder properly before bed. Avoid excess fluids late evening. Chandraprabha vati – 1 tablet twice daily after food Gokshuradi Guggulu – 1 tablet twice daily after food This will help improve urinary flow and reduce sensitivity. If difficulty in urination continues even after stopping oil, then evaluation for prostate/bladder should be done. Regards, Dr Raghuveer (Ayurvedacharya)
