MDS is a serious blood disorder. Ayurveda may be used only as supportive care along with the hematologist’s treatment. • Ashwagandha Churna 3 g twice daily after food. • Guduchi Satva 500 mg twice daily after food. • Amalaki Rasayana 5 g twice daily after food. Diet: Pomegranate, soaked black raisins, mung dal soup, and fresh home-cooked food.

••I understand how incredibly challenging and stressful this situation must be for you. Balancing an aggressive condition like Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) in an 82-year-old patient—especially when standard chemotherapy has to be paused due to cytopenias (low blood counts) or other complications—requires a very delicate, highly personalized touch. ••the primary goal of Ayurveda here is not to replace oncological care, but to provide critical supportive therapy (Rasayana) to help revive the bone marrow, stabilize blood counts, and improve her quality of life. Here is a clinical perspective on how Ayurveda can support your mother during this gap in her conventional treatment: 1. Deepana & Pachana (Igniting Digestive Fire) Before introducing heavy, nutrient-rich blood tonics, we must ensure her digestive system can actually absorb them. Chemotherapy often severely damages the GI tract. ••Dadimadi Ghrita or Sukumara Ghrita: Given in very small, easily digestible doses (if she tolerates fats well) to kindle Agni and protect the mucosal lining. ••Panchakola Churna / Ashtachurna: Extremely small pinches before meals to clear metabolic toxins (Ama) and improve appetite. 2. Rakta-Majja Vardhaka & Rasayana (Marrow & Blood Support) To address the “blood issues” (anemia, leukopenia, or thrombocytopenia) that are delaying her next cycle, classical Ayurveda utilizes specific herbo-mineral and pure herbal formulations to stimulate blood formation (Raktatpattana). ••Punarnavadi Mandoor / Mandura Bhasma: Classical iron formulations processed with herbs that are gentler on the stomach than conventional iron supplements, helping to support red blood cell production. ••Giloy Satva / Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia): An excellent Rasayana that modulates immunity, protects the liver, and has been shown to support platelet and white blood cell counts during bone marrow suppression. ••Carica Papaya Leaf Extract (Eranda Karkati): Specifically useful if a low platelet count (thrombocytopenia) is the primary issue holding back her chemotherapy. ••Suvarnamalini Vasant Ras: A premium herbo-mineral formulation containing purified gold. In geriatric care and chronic tissue depletion (Dhatu Kshaya), it acts as a profound cellular rejuvenator, boosting Ojas and stabilizing chronic weakness. (Note: Must be sourced from a highly reputable pharmacy due to the heavy mineral content). Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera): Known for its Majja-Rasayana properties, it supports bone marrow health, helps fight debilitating fatigue, and counteracts the cellular stress caused by chemo. 3. Dietary Modifications (Aahara) Food must be treated as medicine, especially at 82. ••Manda, Peya, Vilepi: Easily digestible rice gruels processed with a pinch of ginger and cumin. ••Mudga Yusha: Split mung dal soup, which provides clean, easily absorbable protein to prevent muscle wasting. ••Pomegranate (Dadima) & Draksha (Raisins): Excellent natural sources to pacify Pitta and gently support Rakta Dhatu.
