What Are the Causes of a High Pulse Rate and How Can Ayurveda Help? - #16368

I’ve been experiencing a high pulse rate for a few weeks now, and I’m getting quite concerned. It started a few months ago after I began working longer hours, and now it seems like my heart is racing for no reason, even when I’m just sitting or trying to sleep. My pulse rate often feels like it’s over 100 beats per minute, and sometimes I can feel it in my chest or neck. I’ve tried to calm myself down by resting, but the high pulse rate still lingers, and sometimes I feel light-headed. I’ve been trying to figure out high pulse rate causes and what could be going on with my body. I don’t have any known heart problems, but my doctor did say that my elevated pulse rate could be due to anxiety and stress, as I’ve been dealing with a lot at work lately. However, I’m not fully convinced, and I feel like there might be other factors involved. One thing I’ve read is that high pulse rate causes can be linked to lifestyle habits, like not getting enough sleep or eating poorly, which makes sense because I haven’t been sleeping well and I’ve been eating a lot of processed foods. I’m not sure if those are the main reasons, though, because I’m relatively young and fairly active. Could high pulse rate causes be linked to other factors, like hormonal imbalances or Ayurvedic dosha imbalances? I’ve also heard that dehydration can sometimes cause a high pulse rate, and I do drink a lot of coffee throughout the day, so maybe that’s contributing. But I still don’t understand why my pulse keeps racing even after I try to relax. I’m also wondering if my lifestyle is playing a bigger role than I realize. I don’t always eat the healthiest foods, and I have been under more stress than usual. Could high pulse rate causes like these be treated with Ayurvedic methods? I’ve heard that certain herbs and practices can help lower pulse rate, but I’m not sure which ones might be right for me. I’ve also noticed that I’ve been having trouble sleeping because of my racing heart, which makes me feel even more tired and irritable during the day. Is there a connection between sleep issues and a high pulse rate? How can Ayurveda help balance my body’s energy and address these high pulse rate causes in a natural way? What types of Ayurvedic remedies or practices do you suggest for someone dealing with this? Should I focus on managing stress, improving my diet, or both? I would really appreciate any insights into what might be causing my high pulse rate and how Ayurveda could support my health during this time.

It sounds like your high pulse rate could indeed be linked to multiple factors, including stress, lifestyle habits, and potential imbalances in your doshas. In Ayurveda, a racing pulse is often associated with an imbalance in the Pitta dosha, which governs heat, energy, and metabolism in the body. Pitta imbalances, often triggered by stress, poor diet, and lack of sleep, can lead to symptoms like elevated heart rate, irritability, and insomnia. The excess consumption of coffee, which is a stimulant, could further aggravate this imbalance. Ayurveda recommends several remedies to address these issues: first, managing stress through practices like meditation, pranayama (breathing exercises), and yoga can calm the nervous system and bring balance to Pitta. Herbs like Ashwagandha, Brahmi, and Shankhapushpi are known for their calming effects on the mind and body, helping to reduce anxiety and lower heart rate. Additionally, improving your diet by avoiding excessive caffeine, processed foods, and heavy meals while focusing on nourishing, grounding foods such as vegetables, whole grains, and good fats can support your body’s natural rhythm and help stabilize your pulse. Regular sleep, proper hydration, and incorporating relaxation techniques into your daily routine are also key in managing your pulse rate and addressing underlying stress. Consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner could provide you with a personalized approach to rebalancing your doshas and finding long-term relief.

Hey there, I totally get where you’re coming from. High pulse rate can really be concerning and when it just sits there at over 100 beats per minute, it can feel overwhelming. You’re definitely right about stress and lifestyle habits playing a big role! Working long hours and being constantly on the go can spike your adrenaline, and ultimately affect your heart rate.

In Ayurveda, we often see high pulse rate as being linked to an imbalance in the Pitta dosha, which is the fiery energy in our bodies. Stress, overwork and poor dietary habits can disturb this dosha. But, let’s break it down a bit more.

First thing, caffeine. It can be a kicker for heart rate spikes, especially if you’re pounding down cups while working late hours. Try switching to herbal teas, like chamomile, that are calming. Give it a shot, I think you’ll notice a difference after a couple of weeks.

Since you mentioned sleep issues, there’s definitely a link. Lack of quality sleep can stimulate an overactive nervous system, hightening anxiety and pulse rate. Breathing exercises like Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing) are fantastic right before bed. It helps calm the mind, sailing you into restful sleep.

Diet-wise, processed foods do mess with our system. Try incorporating more cooling and grounding foods. Watery fruits, cucumbers, and a staple like basmati rice could help stabilize the Pitta and help bring heart rate down. Dehydration is another stressor, so make sure you’re drinking plenty of water.

And stress! Could you find small ways to unwind each day, even if it’s a short walk or a hobby you love? A bit of mindfulness or meditation can go a long way in reducing stress levels.

Ashwagandha and Brahmi are two herbs known for their calming effects. They help reduce stress and support a healthier balance in heart function. It’d be good to consult with a local practitioner for specific dosages.

Finally, addressing lifestyle changes on both stress management and diet is a great way to tackle this. You’re on the right path, and remember, be patient with yourself. It might take some time to see improvements, but every small step helps.
