I have linear lichen Planus pigmentous. I have started treatment with Ayurveda consultation online. I was prescribed Maha Manjishtha Kwath, Khadirarishta, Arogya Vardhini vati, Ghandhak vati. Then I was given kumkumadi oil for external application, with Manjistha and licorice root mix it with water. However I haven’t really seen any improvement for a month now and I was told I can only take it for 3 months only. Please does that mean after the 3 months I would just stick to the diet even though the pigment hasn’t really left my skin.I was advised to eat only pulses, whole grain good, coconut water, apple , papaya , melon etc. with egg white only and for oil to use for cooking olive oil or avocado oil. This diet is way too strict.

- 1-2 months

Have you experienced any side effects from the Ayurvedic medications?:

••Hello, and thank you for reaching out. First, let me acknowledge how frustrating and emotionally draining it can be to deal with Linear Lichen Planus Pigmentosus (LPP). It is a stubborn condition that requires immense patience, and it is completely understandable that you are feeling discouraged after a month without visible changes. •1. Why Haven’t You Seen Changes in 1 Month? In Ayurveda, LPP is viewed primarily as a Rakta-Pradoshaja Vikara (a disorder involving deep-rooted vitiation of the blood tissue), heavily influenced by Bhrajaka Pitta (the sub-dosha of Pitta responsible for skin color and pigmentation) and Vata (which causes the linear, spreading pattern). Because this pathology resides deep within the Rakta (blood) and Mamsa (muscle) dhatus (tissue layers), one month is simply too short a time to see significant fading of the pigment. The medicines you have been prescribed—Maha Manjisthadi Kwath, Khadirarista, Arogyavardhini Vati, and Gandhak Vati—are excellent, classic choices for purifying the blood and clearing Ama (toxins). However, they work by first arresting the progression of the disease before they can begin to clear the existing pigment. 2. The “3-Month Limit” Myth •You asked if you are doomed to just stick to a strict diet after three months if the pigment hasn’t left. The short answer is no. Here is what that 3-month timeline actually means: ••Formulation Safety: Strong herbo-mineral formulations like Arogyavardhini Vati and Gandhak Vati (which contain purified mineral ingredients) are traditionally not given continuously for more than 2 to 3 months to prevent any systemic overload. ••Treatment Overhaul, Not Stopping: After 3 months, an Ayurvedic physician will typically pause or rotate these specific mineral tablets. However, the blood-purifying liquids (Kwaths and Arishtas) or safe, long-term herbs can often be continued, or the protocol might shift toward stronger Rasayana (rejuvenating/skin-healing) therapies. ••Panchakarma Consideration: If chronic skin conditions do not respond to oral medicines (Shamana), Ayurveda strongly recommends Shodhana (detoxification via Panchakarma), specifically Virechana (therapeutic purgation). This is often the turning point for stubborn pigmentation. 3. The Diet: Let’s Make It Practical •You are entirely right—the diet you were given is excessively restrictive and unsustainable. In Ayurveda, starving your body of adequate nutrition will aggravate Vata Dosha, which can actually worsen skin diseases and delay healing. •Let’s modify this into a sustainable, wholesome Pitta-Vata soothing diet that supports your skin without making you miserable. What to Keep & Diversify ••Grains: Whole grains are good, but don’t limit yourself. Basmati rice, Oats, and Wheat are perfectly fine and cooling for Pitta. Avoid millet (like Bajra or Ragi) right now, as they can be too drying and heating. ••Pulses: Moong dal (green gram) is the absolute best for skin conditions as it is easy to digest and Pathya (wholesome). You can also have pink lentils (Masoor). Avoid heavy, fermenting beans like black gram (Urad dal) or kidney beans (Rajma). ••Cooking Oils (The Reality Check): You do not need to use avocado or olive oil if they do not suit your traditional palate or budget. In Ayurveda, Cow’s Ghee is considered the •best medium for Pitta skin disorders because it directly pacifies Bhrajaka Pitta and heals tissues. Alternatively, Cold-pressed Coconut oil is highly cooling and excellent for cooking in skin conditions. ••What to Strictly Avoid (The Real Culprits) Instead of obsessing over eating only a few foods, focus on eliminating the things that actively inflame the blood (Rakta-kopa): Viruddha Ahara (Incompatible Foods): Never mix milk with fish, eggs, sour fruits, or salt. (e.g., avoid milkshakes, fruit creams, or cheesy omelets). ••Fermented & Sour Foods: Avoid vinegar, heavy curd (yogurt), pickles, alcohol, and fermented batters (like Idli/Dosa) as they intensely heat the blood. ••Excessive Spice & Salt: Cut down heavily on red chilies, green chilies, and highly processed, salty snacks.

Linear Lichen Planus Pigmentosus (LPP) is a chronic skin condition that usually responds slowly to treatment. One month is generally too early to judge the effectiveness of therapy, and visible improvement in pigmentation may take several months. ----The main goal of treatment initially is to stop further progression of the disease and reduce inflammation. The pigmentation itself often fades gradually over time. ----A 3-month course of Ayurvedic medicines does not necessarily mean that treatment will stop completely after 3 months. Your physician will reassess your condition and may continue, modify, or change the treatment depending on your response. ----Since you have not noticed significant improvement yet, I would advise continuing the prescribed treatment and following up with your Ayurvedic physician at the end of the recommended course for reassessment. ----Regarding diet, while certain dietary restrictions may be advised to support skin health, an excessively strict diet is not always required long-term. Please discuss your concerns with your treating physician before making any major dietary changes. ----Also focus on adequate sleep, stress management, regular physical activity, and good hydration, as these can support overall skin health and recovery. Please be patient with the treatment, as LPP often requires long-term management and gradual improvement rather than rapid results. ----Treatment Advice: 1) Mahamanjisthadi Kwath – 20 ml with equal quantity of lukewarm water twice daily after meals. 2) Khadirarishta – 20 ml with equal quantity of water twice daily after meals. 3) Arogyavardhini Vati – 1 tablet twice daily after meals. 4) Gandhak Rasayan – 1 tablet twice daily after meals. 5) Kumkumadi Taila – Apply a thin layer locally over the affected area at bedtime. 6) Manjistha Churna + Yashtimadhu (Licorice) Churna – Mix equal quantities and take 3 grams twice daily with lukewarm water after meals. ----Diet & Lifestyle Advice: Prefer freshly prepared, light, and easily digestible meals. Include whole grains, green vegetables, seasonal fruits, coconut water, pomegranate, papaya, and adequate hydration. Avoid excessively spicy, oily, fried, processed, fermented, and junk foods. Avoid smoking and alcohol. Maintain regular sleep and manage stress through yoga, meditation, and pranayama. Avoid excessive sun exposure and use protective clothing when outdoors.

Thank you for sharing the details. In Ayurveda, Lichen Planus Pigmentosus (LPP) is considered a chronic skin condition involving mainly Pitta and Rakta (blood tissue) imbalance, often associated with inflammation, pigmentation, stress, and immune dysregulation. It is important to understand that one month is usually too early to assess the full benefit of Ayurvedic treatment, especially in pigmentary disorders. What You Should Know * LPP is a slow-healing condition. Visible improvement in pigmentation may take 3–6 months or even longer, depending on the duration, depth of pigmentation, skin type, and individual response to treatment. * The medicines prescribed to you—Maha Manjishtha Kwath, Khadirarishta, Arogyavardhini Vati, Gandhak preparations, and Kumkumadi oil—are commonly used in Ayurveda to support blood purification, reduce inflammation, and improve skin health. Lack of visible improvement within the first month does not necessarily mean the treatment is ineffective. * After the initial 3-month course, your Ayurvedic physician should reassess your progress and modify the treatment plan if needed. Management of chronic skin disorders often requires phased treatment rather than stopping everything abruptly. About the Diet Your current diet appears quite restrictive. While avoiding known aggravating factors is beneficial, most patients do not need to remain on an extremely limited diet indefinitely. Generally preferred foods: Fresh vegetables and seasonal fruits Whole grains such as barley, oats, millet, and brown rice Moong dal and easily digestible legumes Coconut water and adequate hydration Homemade, freshly prepared meals Try to limit: Excessively spicy, fried, and processed foods Refined sugar and junk foods Excessive sour foods and preserved foods Alcohol and smoking (if applicable) A balanced, sustainable diet is usually better than a very restrictive diet that becomes difficult to follow long-term. Lifestyle Recommendations Maintain a regular sleep schedule (7–8 hours daily). Practice stress management through meditation, yoga, or breathing exercises, as stress can aggravate chronic skin conditions. Avoid excessive sun exposure on affected areas. Use mild, fragrance-free skin care products. Stay well hydrated. My Ayurvedic Opinion Since you have: Followed the treatment for only 1–2 months, Experienced no side effects, Been compliant with medicines and diet, Noticed no worsening of the condition, I would recommend continuing follow-up with your Ayurvedic physician and allowing at least 3 months for proper assessment. If there is still minimal response afterward, the treatment protocol may need adjustment rather than simply relying on diet alone. Patience is important with Lichen Planus Pigmentosus. In many cases, stabilization of the disease occurs first, while visible fading of pigmentation takes considerably longer. Regular review and individualized treatment modifications generally provide the best results. Wishing you a steady recovery and healthy skin ahead.
