Addressing your concern about facial tan and pigmentation, especially around the nose and eye areas with Ayurveda, involves balancing the underlying dosha imbalances and ensuring proper skin care.

First, it’s vital to understand that tanning and pigmentation typically points towards a Pitta dosha imbalance, which causes excess heat and discoloration on the skin. Here’s a way to help manage this:

You might want to try applying a facial mask made from natural ingredients. Mix sandalwood powder (Chandan) with a little rose water to make a paste. Apply this paste on your face, especially focusing around the eye and nose areas. Leave it for around 15-20 minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water. Use this mask 2-3 times a week. Sandalwood has cooling properties which can help balance Pitta.

For a more everyday approach, you can use a mixture of turmeric powder (around 1/4 teaspoon) with a tablespoon of yogurt to brighten and lighten the skin slowly. Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory and brightening properties. Apply this mixture gently on the affected areas, leave it for about 10-15 minutes and rinse it off. Be careful, turmeric can stain, so wear clothes that you don’t mind getting colored.

Moreover, keeping yourself hydrated plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy skin. Aim to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily.

Use a natural sunscreen or wear a hat to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays when going outdoors. In Ayurveda, internal cooling herbs like aloe vera juice can be effective in reducing Pitta imbalance. Half a cup a day can really help soothe the skin from inside.

Finally, avoid using any heavily chemical-laden products on your face, as these can further irritate or worsen the condition

If the skin condition persists or worsens, it’s essential consulting a professional Ayurvedic physician to ensure a personalized care plan.

To address the increased pigmentation and tanning on your face, particularly around your eyes and nose, we can look into some tailored Siddha-Ayurvedic approaches. This issue may be linked to a dosha imbalance, likely involving Pitta, which can manifest as pigmentation issues when aggravated.

Start with a simple yet effective remedy. You can make a paste by mixing sandalwood powder with rose water. Apply this paste to the affected areas, leave it on for about 15-20 minutes, and then gently rinse it off with cool water. Sandalwood has cooling properties that can soothe Pitta dosha, aiding in reducing pigmentation over time. Use this paste a few times a week for best results.

Another thing you could consider is incorporating turmeric into your routine. Mix a small pinch of turmeric powder with yogurt to create a mask. Turmeric is known for its brightening properties, and yogurt acts as a natural moisturizer. Apply it evenly over your face, leave it for about 10-15 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water. Avoid excessive use, as turmeric is quite potent.

Your diet and lifestyle are equally critical. Include more cooling foods in your diet such as cucumber, melon, and lettuce, and drink plenty of water to maintain internal hydration and balance. Limiting spicy, oily, or acidic foods may be beneficial in moderating Pitta.

It’s crucial to wear sunscreen when going outdoors during the day to prevent further tanning. Choose a natural sunscreen with ingredients like zinc oxide that may be better tolerated by your skin type and constitution.

If you notice any serious changes or if the pigmentation increases despite these measures, consulting with a healthcare provider would be appropriate to rule out underlying conditions. Immediate medical attention is recommended for any sudden or severe skin changes to ensure safety.

HELLO NISHA,

You are experiencing uneven skin tone, mainly darkness/tanning on the nose and around the eyes, while the rest of your body is fairer. -past application of Tiger balm (a very heating, irritant ointment) on the nose may have damaged delicate skin there, leading to long standing pigmentation. -sun exposure, stress, and pitta-aggravating habits make the condition worse -In Ayurveda, this condition is close to vyanga or Neelika where pitta (heat) and rakta (blood) get vitiated, sometimes mixed with vata (dryness) or kapha(blockage)

TREATMENT GOALS -balance pitta (excess heat, inflammation) -purify rakta (blood) to reduce pigmentation from inside -nourish skin and improve complexion externally with herbal oils and packs -correct root causes diet, lifestyle, sun exposure -prevent recurrence by building resilience of skin

INTERNAL MEDICATIONS

1) MANJISTHADI KWATHA= 20 ml twice daily after meals with equal water for 2 months =blood purifier, clears pigmentation and improves skin tones

2) SARIVADYASAVA= 15ml twice daily with equal water after meals for 3 months =balances pitta, detoxifies, improves complexion

3) AROGYAVARDHINI VATI= 1 tab twice daily with warm water for 8 weeks =corrects liver function, balance metabolism, clears skin blemishes

4) YASHTIMADHU CHURNA= 1/2 tsp with warm milk daily for 2 months =improves fairness, nourishes skin ,reduces pigmentation

EXTERNAL CARE

DAILY CARE -KUMKUMADI TAILA= 3-5 drops massage gently on face at night, leave overnight =brightens complexion, reduces pigmentation

-ALOE VERA GEL (fresh)= apply in morning leave 20 min wash off

WEEKLY PACKS (choose 2-3 times/week)

1) MANJISTHA + CHANDANA + MULTANI MITTI= mix with rose water= de-tan and cooling

2) LICORICE POWDER = RAW MILK= brightening pack for nose and eye area

3) TURMERIC + HONEY + FEW DROPS LEMON JUICE= for stubborn pigmentation

SPECIAL OIL FOR PIGMENTATION -NALPAMRADI KERAM= apple, leave 30 min, then wash with lukewarm water. good for overall fairness

LIFESTYLE CHANGES -protect face from sun (use umbrella, scarf) -wash face with cool water 4-5 times a day -sleep early, wake early improves skin metabolism -use cotton pillowcases and avoid rubbing face often

AVOID -daytime sleeping increases kapha and skin dullness -late nights aggravates vata-pitta->dark circles -hot, spicy, sour, fermented, oily food -too much tea, coffee, alcohol, smoking

DIET -Fruits= pomegranate, apple, watermelon, grapes -Vegetables= bottle gourd, cucumber , ridge gourd, pumpkin -Liquids= coconut water, buttermilk thin with roasted cumin, coriander water -Milk and ghee in moderation= nourishes skin

AVOID -junk food, fast food, pickles, fried food -excess salt and sour items vinegar, curd at daytime -red chillies, spicy curries

YOGA ASANA (improve facial blood flow) -sarvangasana -matsyasana -bhujangasana -shavasana

PRANAYAM -Sheetali and sheetkari= cooling breath to reduce pitta -Anulom vilom=balances all doshas, improves oxygenation

HOME REMEDIES -cucumber slices= place on eyes daily to reduce dark circles -potato juice= dab on nose and eye area for lightening pigmentation -rose water spray- refreshes, balances pitta heat -gram flour + milk + turmeric paste- weekly for de-tan

Pigmentation takes time to heal- Ayurveda works slowly but deeply -expect results in 6-12 weeks if remedies + diet= lifestyle are followed regularly -External creams /oils only give partial results- the internal treatment and diet correction is the real key -with consistency , you will see not just fairer skin but also better overall health and glow

DO FOLLOW

HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL

THANK YOU

DR. MAITRI ACHARYA
