I am male aged 60 yrs. Diabetic and highpertension patient for more than 15 years. At present using only Metformin 500 mg one tablet once in a day for Diabetes. Amlokind -at, Losartan 50 for htn. and methylcobalamin 1500 mcg once. Lost 20 kilos with diet and exercise in past one year as I was 83 kilos then. At that time I experienced more than 30 issues all come and go... temporary, but repeating... and experienced very discomfort life. Meanwhile I started taking Trikatu churna on a friend's advice for cough and cold. The result is funtastic. Not only cough and cold I experienced some of my issues are decreasing. Then I studied about Trikatu churna which is new to me. I tried Triphala churna long long ago. In my studies I found both are good for me. Even I checked with doctors in this platform also. It's almost three months I am using them. It's becoming a must or helping a lot now. My diabetes and htn numbers are in control. 1. Is it good to continue these for longer periods... say even for lifetime? 2. Do they have any side effects? 3. Recently I found my prostate enlarged and in border line for medication. Do they have any impact on it. 4. What are alternatives for these to discord them? 5. I was almost on 12 tablets a year ago... now only on four added these two churnas atleast once in a day.

Thank you for sharing your journey in such detail It’s truly encouraging to see how much you have improved through discipline diet and self care, losing 20 kilos and bringing your diabetes and blood pressure under control is a remarkable step and it shows that your body is responding very positively to balance and cleaning Trikatu and triphala are two of ayurveda’s most time tested formulations and the benefits you are experiencing make perfect sense according to ayurvedic principles Trikatu churna combination of black pepper long pepper and dry ginger improves digestion clears mucus enhances metabolism and makes the body more responsive to medicine like merformin It stimulates Agni and reduces ama In diabetes it helps regulate sugar absorption and supports lipid metabolism while in htn it promotes better circulation Triphala churna gently detoxifies the intestines cleanses the liver improves gut microbiota and supports tissue rejuvenation When used together they maintain internal cleansing enhance metabolism and keep channels open

You can continue both safely but in moderation Trikatu to be taken in small quantities about 1 to 2 pinch once or twice daily before meals Avoid on empty stomach if you feel acidity or burning Triphala is best taken at bedtime 1 tsp with warm water If you notice loose stools then use alternate days Long term use is generally safe if you observe your body and adjust accordingly as these are balancing not habit forming herbs

Regarding your enlarged prostate neither trikatu nor triphala worsens the condition In fact triphala reduces inflammation around the prostate Trikatu when taken in high doses may cause irritation Stop trikatu if you notice any burning sensation

You have already reduced your dependence on multiple tablets which shows your system is regaining self regulation Continue allopathic medicine as advised

Continuing Trikatu and Triphala can indeed be beneficial but it’s essential to understand their long-term use. Trikatu, a combination of black pepper, long pepper, and ginger, generally improves digestion and metabolism, which can indirectly impact conditions like diabetes and hypertension. Triphala, known for detoxification, supports digestion and bowel regularity. However, using them indefinitely requires careful monitoring.

For long-term usage, it’s advisable to consult with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner regularly. Trikatu, especially, due to its heating nature, can potentially aggravate Pitta if not monitored well. Over time, this might cause acidity or digestive issues in some individuals. Ensure you’re balancing it with cooling foods if you notice signs like acidity or heat intolerance.

About Triphala, it is generally safe for prolonged usage, but because it also detoxifies, ensure you are staying hydrated and not experiencing dehydration-related symptoms.

Regarding prostate health, these formulations don’t specifically target prostate issues, but maintaining good digestion can be beneficial overall. Nevertheless, any new or ongoing symptoms related to prostate enlargement should be checked regularly by a healthcare provider specializing in that area.

If you’re exploring alternatives, focus on diet and lifestyle changes: maintaining a Pitta (fire) balancing diet might help if you notice any heat-related symptoms from Trikatu. A plant-based diet rich in leafy greens, whole grains, and lean proteins can beneficially impact your overall condition.

Regular exercise, consistent sleep, stress management, and monitored use of Ayurvedic formulations, can help manage your conditions in the longer term. If you’re considering stopping Trikatu or Triphala, do so under guidance, as abrupt changes can affect your body’s balance.

Overall, while these aren’t a direct substitute for your current medications, they can complement them, with a focus on balancing your doshas and improving overall wellness. Keep engaging with your healthcare providers for both conventional and Ayurvedic pathways to ensure safety and optimal health outcomes.

Considering your diabetic and hypertensive conditions, it’s commendable that you’ve managed weight and seem to have some control over symptoms. Trikatu and Triphala churna can be beneficial, but let’s look closer at your questions.

1. Long-term use of Trikatu and Triphala may be generally safe, yet it’s important to monitor your response. Trikatu, primarily designed to stimulate agni and improve digestion, can increase Pitta, which might aggravate certain conditions over time, especially if you have a Pitta-predominant constitution. Triphala supports bowel regularity and detoxification. Regular assessment by an Ayurvedic practitioner is vital to adjust usage as your body constitution and health needs evolve.

2. Possible side effects include digestive disturbances like acidity or loose stools, especially from Trikatu, due to its heating nature. If you notice any discomfort, consider moderating your intake or alternating days. Triphala is usually gentler.

3. Regarding prostate enlargement, neither Trikatu nor Triphala directly influence this condition. However, excessively stimulating Pitta with Trikatu over time could potentially irritate tissues. Be vigilant about prostate health with your physician.

4. Alternatives depend on your dosha balance. For cough, considering herbs like Tulsi or Mulethi for respiratory support might be suitable. For digestion, Haritaki (one of Triphala’s components) or cumin water could help in milder cases.

5. Reducing your pill burden is understandable, but each reduction should be evaluated. If Trikatu and Triphala are to be replaced, ensure that you understand what each alternative does and why it’s preferable. Regular check-ins with both your medical and Ayurvedic practitioners are needed, especially with changing symptoms.

Always keep your other healthcare providers in the loop about your Ayurvedic practices, to ensure all treatments align safely with your current medication regimen.
