Dark circles can be a persistent issue and they often indicate a deeper imbalance in the body, particularly related to stress and lifestyle factors. In Ayurveda, such conditions are closely linked to an imbalance in Pitta and Vata doshas. When stress or depression is present, these doshas can become aggravated, leading to dark circles.

To address this comprehensively, start by examining your diet. Favor a diet rich in fresh, sattvic foods that help balance Vata and Pitta, such as ghee, almonds, and milk. Try to reduce caffeine and spicy foods which may aggravate Pitta. Incorporating more fruits like pomegranate and vegetables like cucumber can help nourish the skin and reduce inflammation due to their cooling properties.

Sleep and stress management are critical here too, as insufficient rest can worsen dark circles. Aim for a consistent sleep schedule – ideally getting to bed by 10 PM to maximize restorative sleep. Incorporating practices like meditation and yoga (focusing on calming poses) can help improve overall mental health and stress levels.

From an external perspective, Ayurveda suggests using rose water or cold milk-soaked cotton pads on the eyes for a soothing effect. Applying almond oil gently around the eyes before bed may also support skin elasticity and lighten the circles over time.

Herbs such as ashwagandha and jatamansi can be very helpful for balancing mental health and reducing stress, but it’s important to consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner to tailor an approach specific to your unique constitution.

Finally, if none of these strategies helps over time or your mental health concerns persist or worsen, seeking consultation with a healthcare professional is crucial. This should be your priority since it’s important to rule out any underlying health conditions contributing to your symptoms.
