Hello I‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ can see that you are worried about a slight blood pressure increase and would like to use Nigella sativa (Kalonji) as a natural remedy.

YOUR CONCERN

Blood pressure of about 132/92 mmHg A m interested to know if Nigella sativa can be of help in controlling BP Vegetables are already being steamed with 1 tsp of Kalonji which is added daily Healthy and active without any symptoms

AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE

Hypertension is usually related to Pitta-Vata imbalance and the condition may be worsened by stress and an improper diet.

Although Nigella sativa (Kalonji) is a heating agent, it is a balancing one and therefore:

helps to lower the high blood pressure to some extent

maintain the heart and vascular health

have a mild antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect

REGULAR DOSES

1. Nigella sativa seeds – 1–2 tsp daily Nigella sativa seeds can be consumed in any of these forms: raw, lightly roasted or mixed in warm water/food

2. Kalonji oil – ½–1 tsp daily, preferably in the morning before food

One can take this for a long time in moderate doses and it is quite safe but always ensure that you monitor your blood pressure regularly.

LIFESTYLE & DIET RECOMMENDATIONS

✅ INCLUDE

Fresh vegetables and fruits Oats, whole grains, and legumes Nuts (almonds, walnuts) but do not exceed 1 handful per day Drink warm water throughout the day

❌ AVOID

Excess salt, pickles, and processed food Excess caffeine and cold drinks Late-night eating and stress

LIFESTYLE HABITS

Engage in physical activities every day (walking, yoga, or swimming) Deep breathing, Anulom Vilom, or Bhramari Pranayama Good rest (7–8 hours) Stress relieving techniques

With regular intake of Nigella sativa and changes in lifestyle, blood pressure can be lowered by 5–10 mmHg over 1–2 months in mild cases Assists in sustaining cardiovascular health in the long term

MONITORING

Measure blood pressure at home twice a day After 6–8 weeks, do follow up

Warm Regards Dr Snehal Vidhate

Nigella sativa is commonly known as black seed or kalonji,is useful in mild, recently detected high blood pressure like yours, especially when there are no symptoms and the lifestyle is already active. In such cases

Nigela sativa helps by relaxing blood vessels, it improves circulation, reduces internal inflammation, and supports metabolic balance. These effects together can help lower high blood pressure over time, particularly the diastolic pressure which in your case is seen.

1 tsp of Nigella sativa you are using in steamed vegetables is good but for better absorption, lightly crush the seeds before adding to steamed vegetables and take during day time either with breakfast or lunch. Do not increase the dose , as the higher quantities can create excess body heat or stomach irritation.

Nigella sativa can be taken long term as a daily support when used in moderation.however,If you notice acidity, burning sensation, mouth ulcers, or a feeling of excessive heat, reduce the quantity to halfteaspoon or take a short break.

Since your blood pressure elevation is recent, diet is also very important Avoid excess salt, packaged foods, late night meals, and coffee . Maintain regular sleep timing and continue your exercise Avoid overexertion. Practice pranayama meditation

Check your blood pressure regularly, atkeast twice a week and observe the readings over the next two to three months. If the diastolic pressure is above 90 despite these measures then adding oral tablets is necessary

With consistent usage you can manage early stage high blood pressure without any extra medications

Yes Nigella saliva ( black seed / kalonji ) can support, mild or newly detected hypertension It has a gentle blood pressure, lowering effect by helping blood vessels, relax, and by reducing low grade inflammation It works best in early or borderline cases, not as a replacement for medication in long-standing or severe hypertension

You can take half teaspoon with warm water to eat, and then drink water or you can add to vegetables Make it to half teaspoon daily and continue So you can take it for long-term Traditionally Nigella saliva has been used daily for months or even years without dependence Just avoid increasing the dose beyond decent, continue to monitor your blood pressure

Check your blood pressure once or twice a week. Avoid excessive salt, maintain good, sleep, and stress control, and if you even start BP medication you can continue this Since your Gastro pressure is around 92, if this remains consistently above 90, despite lifestyle measures, it would be wise to have it medically revived

Yes, Nigella Sativa (Kalonji) helps reduce hypertension. It contains Thymoquinone, which relaxes blood vessels.

Don’t swallow whole: If you sprinkle whole seeds on veggies, they often pass through undigested. You must crush or powder the seeds before adding them to your food to release the medicinal oil.

Dosage & Long-Term Use Dose: 1 teaspoon (crushed) daily is perfect. Alternatively, take ½ teaspoon of Black Seed Oil with warm water. Long-Term Safety: Yes, it is safe, but it is Hot (Ushna) in nature. To avoid acidity or excess body heat, follow a 3 Weeks On, 1 Week Off cycle.

Add Garlic: Since you steam vegetables, add 1 clove of crushed Garlic along with the Kalonji. This combination specifically targets the lower BP (diastolic).

Nigella sativa, often referred to as black seed, does have potential benefits for managing hypertension, as noted in some studies. In Ayurveda, this herb is praised for balancing doshas—particularly Vata and Kapha—and improving Agni, or digestive fire, which can indirectly support cardiovascular health. If you’re currently adding one teaspoon to steamed vegetables, you are on the right path. This amount is generally safe, and it’s a common dosage in culinary contexts.

For a more therapeutic approach, the typical recommendation might be around 2 to 3 grams per day. However, it is essential to consider your unique constitution (prakriti) and any other underlying health conditions before making any adjustments. Staying within this range can help mitigate any risk of adverse effects, which are rare but could include upset stomach or alterations in blood sugar.

Considering the long-term usage, while nigella sativa is generally safe for prolonged periods, it’s still crucial to monitor your body’s response and consult with a healthcare practitioner, especially if you take medications for hypertension or other conditions. The interaction of this herb with pharmaceuticals hasn’t been extensively studied, so regular check-ups to monitor blood pressure levels are advisable.

Alongside, consider integrating other Ayurvedic practices like Pranayama, a controlled breathing technique, which is known to support heart health and aid in stress management. A balanced diet, rich in fiber and low in excessive salt or processed foods, further complements the use of nigella sativa. Also, promote regular exercise and sufficient rest, aligning with your lifestyle, to sustain healthy blood pressure levels.

If the blood pressure remains consistently elevated, it is crucial not to rely solely on natural remedies but to seek medical advisement to avoid potential complications. Adjustments in diet or Ayurvedic supplements should adhere to a holistic approach tailored to your health needs.
