No—don’t give these tablets to a 10-year-old without a pediatrician

These brands/tablets are formulated and dosed for adults. Ashwagandha (1500 mg) is an adult dose and not recommended routinely for children. Brahmi, Shankhpushpi, Shatavari may be used in kids only in child-specific doses/forms (usually syrups/powders), not adult tablets. Safety, dosing, and interactions vary by child and reason for use.

Hello That’s a really good question! Kids’ bodies are still developing, so we need to be careful, even with good herbs.

Here’s the short answer:

Yes, but not all four herbs together, and definitely not adult doses.

For a 10-year-old: * Brahmi – okay * Shankhpushpi – okay * Shatavari – maybe okay * Ashwagandha – be careful!

Why the caution? Kids are naturally in a growth phase. Giving too many of these types of herbs at once can:

* Mess with their natural hormones * Possibly start puberty too early * Cause tummy troubles * Create a need for them

So, less is more. Here’s a breakdown of each herb for a 10-year-old:

1. Brahmi (Best) * Great for: * Memory * Focus * Worries * Exam stress * Dose: * ¼ of what an adult takes * (Usually around 125–250 mg, once a day)

2. Shankhpushpi (Also good) * Good for: * Overthinking * Trouble sleeping * Feeling nervous * Dose: * Same as Brahmi

3. Shatavari (Only if they really need it) * Use it if they: * Don’t weigh enough * Get sick a lot * Have a weak tummy * Don’t use it if they: * Weigh too much * Show early signs of puberty

4. Ashwagandha (Go easy) * Ashwagandha: * Changes hormones * Can increase testosterone * Is strong * For kids: Only if they are very weak, underweight, worried, or always sick. * Don’t just give it to them regularly. * Your 1500 mg tablet is a lot for an adult, so NO WAY for a kid!

Safest combo for a 10-year-old, if you’re aiming for better mental health/focus:

* Option A (Best) * Just Brahmi * Or Brahmi + Shankhpushpi

That should be enough.

How long can they take them? * 4 to 8 weeks. * Then stop for a while. * Don’t give them these herbs for months without a break.

What’s even better than tablets? For kids, what they do every day is more helpful than herbs:

* Good sleep * No phones at night * Playing outside * Nuts (like almonds and walnuts) * Cow ghee * Warm milk

These things naturally help their brain and nerves.

My honest advice: For a healthy 10-year-old:

* ❌ Don’t give all four herbs at once * ❌ Don’t give adult doses of Ashwagandha * ✔ Use a little Brahmi or Shankhpushpi if you need to * ✔ It’s better to give a little help than to give them too much

A key thing to remember: Kids grow best when we support their bodies, not try to take over.

Less is better.

Warm Regards Dr. Snehal Vidhate

Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) Traditionally used for memory and focus in children. - Form: Syrup or powder is preferred over tablets. - Dosage: About 250–500 mg daily (much lower than adult dose). - Anupana: Warm milk or honey.

Shankhpushpi (Convolvulus pluricaulis) Commonly given to children for concentration and calmness. - Form: Syrup (like Dabur Shankhpushpi) is widely used for kids. - Dosage: 1–2 teaspoons daily. - Anupana: Warm milk or water.

Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus) More often used for nourishment and immunity. - Form: Powder or syrup is gentler for children. - Dosage: 250–500 mg daily. - Anupana: Warm milk.

- Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) ⚠️ Caution: The tablet you have (Prowise 1500 mg) is an adult-strength dose. - For children, the safe range is 125–250 mg daily. - Giving 1500 mg at once is too high for a 10-year-old. - If you want to use Ashwagandha, look for pediatric formulations (syrup or lower-dose powder).

🚨 Important Safety Notes - Children’s metabolism and tolerance are different—always use pediatric formulations (syrups, powders) rather than adult tablets. - Start with very small doses and observe tolerance. - Avoid combining all four herbs at once; introduce one at a time. - Commercial brands like Dabur and Himalaya often have child-friendly syrups (Brahmi, Shankhpushpi) that are safer than tablets.

I want to improve his focus and he is a bit hyper active too

Ok In that case start changing day to day lifestyle …avoid watching phones etc for long time And for treatment point Brahmi vati-1/2 tablet twice Ashwagandha -1/2 tsp with milk twice Meditation is must For good sleep

HELLO,

For focus + mild hyperactivity in 10 year old, Ayurveda takes a calming stabilising approach rather than stimulating or heavy tonics

This pattern usually reflects -Vata dominance (restlessness, impulsivity) -sometimes Rajo guna excess (over stimulation) -Not weakness, so balya herbs like Ashwagandha are not first choice

GOAL -calm the mind -sharpen memory -support nervous system gently

BEST HERBS FOR YOUR CHILD

1) BRAHMI= PRIMARY HERB -improves attention, memory, learning -reduces mental over activit -safe for long term use in children

DOSE VERY IMPORTANT -125 mg once daily -morning after breakfast Tablet= give 1/4 tab only (if tab is 500 mg)

2) SHANKHAPUSHPI- calming support -reduces hyperactivity -improves impulse control -supports sleep quality

DOSE -125 mg daily -evenig, after meals -tablets= 1/4 tab

AVOID FOR NOW -Ashwagandha= too heating, can worsen restlessness -Shatavari= unnecessary , heavy for this goal

SAFE COMBINATION (do not give everything)

OPTION A (best and simple) -Brahmi alone for 4 weeks -> assess improvement

OPTION B (if hyperactivity is prominent) -Morning= brahmi 125 mg -Evening= shankhpushpi 125 mg

Do not exceed these dose

IMPORTANT ADMINISTRATION RULES -always give after meals -avoid giving at night if it causes alertness -do not combine with caffeine, chocolate, junk food -avoid screen time before bedtime

DIET AND LIFESTYLE SUPPORT VERY IMPORTANT

REDUCE -packaged snacks -artifical colors/ flavours -excess sugar -cold drinks

INCREASE -warm, freshly cooked meals -milk with a pinch of nutmeg at night -regular sleep timing

DAILY PRACTICES -outdoor play not screens -simple breathing= slow deep breaths * 5 minute -consistent routine very important for children

WHEN TO EXPECT RESULTS -Calming= 7-10 days -Focus and attention= 3-4 weeks -best results when combined with routine + diet

DO FOLLOW

HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL

THANK YOU

Yes, all four are generally safe for children 10 years old in low, adjusted doses, but only short-term (4–8 weeks max) and under guidance.

They are brain tonics & nourishing, commonly used in kids for focus, calmness & growth.

Recommended Child Dose (10 yrs) 1 Brahmi tablet (Dabur/Himalaya) – ½ tablet once daily (morning) 2 Shatavari tablet – ½ tablet once daily (evening) 3 Shankhpushpi tablet – ½ tablet once daily (morning or night) 4 Ashwagandha 1500 mg (Prowise), do NOT give full tablet, too high. Give ¼ tablet (~375 mg) once daily at night (or open capsule & use ⅓–½ powder)

Crush ½ tablet or use powder + ½ tsp honey or warm milk , easy to swallow Give after food (never empty stomach) Start with half of above doses for first 5–7 days and watch for loose stools, drowsiness or upset Maximum 4–8 weeks continuous , then 2-week break & reassess

When to avoid or stop If loose motion, excessive sleepiness, stomach upset then stop immediately Do not give long-term without pediatrician/Ayurvedic doctor supervision Ashwagandha 1500 mg tablet is adult strength – dose must be very low in children

BRAHMI CAN BE GIVEN SAFELY TO A TEN YEAR OLD IN LOW DOSE IT HELPS IMPROVE CONCENTRATION CALMNESS AND SLEEP IT SHOULD BE GIVEN ONLY HALF THE ADULT TABLET ONCE DAILY AFTER FOOD

SHANKHPUSHPI IS ALSO SAFE FOR CHILDREN AND IS VERY USEFUL FOR ANXIETY RESTLESSNESS AND POOR FOCUS AGAIN ONLY HALF TABLET ONCE DAILY AFTER FOOD IS SUFFICIENT AND THERE IS NO NEED TO GIVE FULL DOSE

SHATAVARI IS A NOURISHING HERB BUT IN CHILDREN IT IS NOT ROUTINELY REQUIRED UNLESS THERE IS CLEAR WEAKNESS POOR WEIGHT OR LOW IMMUNITY IF THE CHILD IS OTHERWISE HEALTHY IT CAN BE AVOIDED OR GIVEN IN VERY SMALL DOSE

ASHWAGANDHA NEEDS CAUTION IN CHILDREN THE PROWISE ASHWAGANDHA 1500 MG TABLET IS A STRONG ADULT DOSE AND SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN TO A TEN YEAR OLD WITHOUT PROPER MEDICAL ASSESSMENT IT CAN SOMETIMES CAUSE HEAVINESS DIGESTIVE DISTURBANCE OR EXCESS SEDATION IN CHILDREN

THERE IS ALSO NO NEED TO GIVE MANY MEDICINES TOGETHER FOR A CHILD ONE MILD HERB IS USUALLY ENOUGH DEPENDING ON THE SYMPTOMS OVERMEDICATION CAN DISTURB AGNI

IF THE CHILD HAS ANXIETY POOR CONCENTRATION RESTLESSNESS OR SLEEP ISSUES THEN BRAHMI OR SHANKHPUSHPI ALONE IN LOW DOSE IS SUFFICIENT ALONG WITH GOOD DIET PROPER SLEEP AND A CALM ROUTINE

IF YOU SHARE THE EXACT PROBLEM OF THE CHILD I CAN GUIDE YOU IN A SAFE AND BALANCED AYURVEDIC WAY
