When it comes to jaundice, Ayurveda focuses on balancing your doshas, especially Pitta, which is closely linked to liver function and bile secretion. To support liver health and reduce bilirubin levels, Ayurveda does offer some remedies, but always make sure to work closely with your doctor or an Ayurvedic practitioner, especially since you’re already on medication.
Herbs like Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), Bhringraj (Eclipta alba), and Turmeric (Curcuma longa) are actually reputed for their liver-protective qualities. Guduchi is renowned for its detoxifying properties and supports liver function. Try a Guduchi decoction, boil some Guduchi stems in water, simmer for 15-20 minutes, and drink a cup dailiy. Bhringraj can be consumed as a powder (churna), about half a teaspoon mixed in honey once or twice a day. Turmeric, with its antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, can be added to your meals or consumed as golden milk.
As for diet, favor foods that are light and easy on the liver. Cooked veggies, especially beetroot, carrots, and leafy greens can be helpful. Moong dal is also recommended since it’s nourishing yet light. Stay clear of fried, spicy, or oily foods, they can exacerbate Pitta imbalance. Drink plenty of water mixed with a dash of lemon, it helps cleanse. A simple drink made from cumin and coriander seeds boiled in water can be cooling and supportive.
Lifestyle matters too! Adequate rest is key. Also, meditation or gentle yoga can be soothing and help reduce stress. Oh, and avoid alcohol completely since it’s liver’s job to process it, adding more burden to an already stressed organ is a bad idea.
Some folks find Panchakarma beneficial for deep detox but that’s something needing professional guidance, not a DIY thing. Remember, jaundice can be a sign of something underlying, so ongoing monitoring with your healthcare provider is still important.
