How can I reduce my knee pain if I have gouty and high uric acid? - #23169

I have arthritis or gouty due to high level of uric acid which causes me intense knee pain due to which I suffer a lot. I cannot work efficiently due to this and also feel weakness in body. Sometimes my knees look swollen due to this and my entire leg start paining also I have headache which is why I suffer a lot.

Let’s start with diet. Your focus should be on reducing purine intake which may help manage uric acid levels. Avoid red meats, aged cheeses, shellfish, and alcohol especially beer. Instead, favor more of a plant-based diet with lots of vegetables like cucumber, beets, pumpkin, and bitter gourd which are considered good for gout. Also, make sure you are hydrated; drink plenty of water to help flush out toxins. Cherries, particularly tart cherries, may help lower uric acid levels, so try to include them in your diet if possible.

Next, lifestyle adjustments are significant too. Establishing a routine can support balance. Aim for regular exercise that’s gentle on the joints — swimming or yoga can do wonders. But, steer clear of any heavy strain on the knees if they are hurting. Rest is crucial when you experience a flare-up. Apply a warm compress to your knees; it might help ease pain or swelling. Massaging the knees with warm sesame oil can be soothing and helps in circulating the energy (vata) accumulated in the joints.

On the herbal front, turmeric is an excellent anti-inflammatory agent. You might try taking it with warm milk or water. Guduchi is another herb known to help reduce uric acid levels - but it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare provider for the correct dose. Also, incorporating ginger tea can support digestion and help reduce inflammation.
