Irregular periods also had history of catamenial epilepsy taking anti convalescent tablets - #23604

Pavani

I am having a problem of irregular periods. 37 years old. Married, staying alone, have no child yet. Had my last period on 21 March, since then have not had my periods. In March I had periods twice for the first time in life on 7th had the first period and on 21st again had another. It was not spotting almost a regular period. I also have a history of catamenial epilepsy, have been taking anti convalescent tablets since 2013. Have seen huge reduction in seizure. But have been maintaining a dairy for the pattern study. I usually get it during ovulation. Last year had been getting my periods every month. Suddenly after March haven't got periods yet. No other issues, health wise I don't feel weak. I have a healthy sleep pattern. Reduced stress by meditation. Those things are helping just suddenly periods missed.

Irregular periods can be concerning, especially with your history of catamenial epilepsy and medication use. The fact that your periods have suddenly become irregular after being consistent for a while suggests an imbalance that might be influenced by your doshas, particularly Vata and Pitta. In Ayurveda, menstrual cycles are closely related to the balance of these doshas, the digestive fire(agni), and overall harmony within the body.

First, consider incorporating warming and nourishing foods. Favour cooked meals like khichdi and soups that are easy to digest, support Vata balance, and provide warmth. Include herbs like Ashwagandha and Shatavari, known for supporting reproductive health and hormonal balance. Taking Ashwagandha powder with warm milk in the evening can help soothe the nervous system too.

Hydration plays a crucial role. Drink plenty of warm water throughout the day, possibly infused with ginger or cumin to aid digestion and circulation.

Maintain a daily routine, waking and sleeping at the same time every day to help regulate your internal clock. Gentle yoga and breathing exercises, especially Pranayama, might help in balancing stress levels, reducing any Vata aggravation. Your meditation practice is already a great step – keep it regular.

It’s also wise to revisit your medications with a healthcare provider. Anti-epileptic drugs can sometimes affect hormones and menstrual cycles. Confirming that your medications are not contributing to these changes is crucial.

Before embracing any new changes, consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner for a personalized approach suiting your constitution could provide deeper insights. If your irregular periods continue or worsen, seeking guidance from a gynecologist is paramount to address any underlying issues that may require immediate attention.

Hey pranavi Have you consulted gynecologist for this? You’re at an age where perimenopausal hormone shifts begin in some women. This can be due to the premenopausal hornonal shifts. Do a Hormone Panel (Blood Test)

Ask your doctor to test:

FSH, LH

Estradiol (E2)

TSH and Prolactin

AMH (if fertility planning is still open)

These will show if you’re perimenopausal or having temporary suppression.

Till then you can take- Ashokarishta Regulates bleeding and cycle 15 ml twice a day with equal water Shatavari (capsule or powder) Nourishes uterus, supports hormones 500 mg or 1 tsp twice daily Dashmool Kwath (optional) For Vata calming (if dryness/irregular flow) 30 ml decoction daily
