Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOD) is a hormonal disorder common in women of reproductive age, and Ayurveda offers holistic ways to manage it through food and lifestyle. First, balance your dosha, especially kapha, as it’s often involved in PCOD. Start with your diet — include foods that are light, dry, and warming. Think of barley, quinoa, and millets, replacing moist and heavy foods. Fresh, seasonal vegetables that are bitter and astringent, like kale, bitter gourd, and mustard greens, can help in managing symptoms. Avoid sweet, salty, and sour foods, reducing sugar, dairy, white flour, and processed items.

Introduce regular meals with timing - breakfast around 8:00 AM, lunch at noon, and a light dinner by 7:00 PM. Drink plenty of warm water and herbal teas infused with herbs like cinnamon, fenugreek, and ginger that promote digestion and regulate sugar levels. Avoid cold drinks and iced water.

In addition to yoga, practice pranayama like Kapalbhati and Anulom-Vilom for at least 15 minutes daily, focusing on the breath’s rhythm. Regular exercise helps in weight management and hormone balance, so continue with your yoga routine but ensure it includes asanas targeting abdominal organs, like Dhanurasana and Bhujangasana.

Ayurvedic herbs like Shatavari and Ashwagandha are known for their role in hormonal balance. Consider consulting an Ayurvedic practitioner for personalized herbal formulation that aligns with your body constitution.

Remember, stress impacts hormone levels, so incorporate meditation or mindfulness practices into your routine. Maintain regular sleep patterns, as irregular sleep can affect hormonal balance.

Consult with a healthcare professional for a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan, especially if symptoms persist. This integrative approach can aid in managing PCOD, but ensure ongoing monitoring and adjustments based on your body’s response.

Managing PCOD through Siddha-Ayurvedic principles involves addressing imbalances in your doshas, especially focusing on balancing Kapha and Vata, regulating your metabolism, and supporting hormonal health. Here’s a blend of dietary and lifestyle recommendations that might assist you:

Firstly, diet plays a crucial role in managing PCOD symptoms. Include foods that are light, warm, and easy to digest to pacify Kapha. Favor whole grains like millet and barley, and incorporate warming spices such as cumin, turmeric, and ginger to aid digestion and boost metabolic fire (Agni). Fresh vegetables and moderate intake of fruits high in fiber can help regulate insulin levels. Avoid processed foods, refined sugars, and excessive dairy, which can contribute to Kapha imbalance. Hydration is key, so sip on warm water infused with a small piece of ginger throughout the day.

When it comes to yoga, focusing on asanas that stimulate the abdominal area can be beneficial. Practice poses like Dhanurasana (Bow Pose), Setu Bandhasana (Bridge Pose), and Baddha Konasana (Bound Angle Pose) as they support reproductive health. Pranayama (breathing exercises) such as Kapalabhati and Anulom Vilom can help balance hormones and relieve stress.

Herbal remedies in the Siddha-Ayurvedic system such as Ashoka churna and Shatavari can be beneficial in regulating the menstrual cycle and hormonal balance. However, it’s best to consult with a trained practitioner to tailor remedies precisely for you.

Avoid heavy workouts that can exacerbate Vata, causing irregular periods, and try to maintain a routine with enough sleep and relaxation. Stress management through meditation or simple daily relaxation also aids in hormonal balance. It’s crucial to have ongoing support and perhaps a more personalized treatment plan from a healthcare provider, as endocrine disorders can be complex.
