Menstrual irregularities like prolonged bleeding in PCOD require a careful approach in Ayurveda. Your condition signals an imbalance in the doshas, primarily Vata and Kapha, which affect Rasa and Rakta Dhatus leading to Menorrhagia (excessive bleeding). It’s important to first address the imbalance and to strengthen your overall health through natural measures.
First, diet. Adopting a Kapha-Vata pacifying diet is key. Focus on whole grains, warm foods, fresh vegetables, sweet and astringent tastes. Avoid salty and sour items. Include foods like pomegranate, aloe vera juice (consider taking around 10-20 ml daily on an empty stomach), and coriander seeds (make a tea by boiling 2 teaspoons in water for 10 minutes and drink it warm once a day). These help stabilize the reproductive system and reduce excess bleeding.
Breakfast should be light and warm; try stewed apples or pears with cinnamon. Meals must be regular, preferably at the same time each day, to strengthen agni and regulate menstruation cycles. Also, sip on ginger tea to support digestion and balance Vata.
Regular lifestyle is crucial. Prioritize routine – sleep by 10 PM and wake up by 6 AM. This aligns the biological clock, reducing stress and promoting hormonal balance. Moderate exercise like yoga or walking helps. Include poses like Baddha Konasana (Bound Angle Pose) or Viparita Karani (Legs-Up-The-Wall Pose), which can assist in balancing your menses.
Herbal remedies can help too. Ashoka (saraca indica) is beneficial for heavy bleeding; consult an ayurvedic doctor about its use. Manjistha (Rubia cordifolia) also supports a healthy menstrual flow. Moringa leaf powder is another option to consider.
But remember, if bleeding persists or heavy, seek immediate medical attention—it’s vital for ensuring no serious underlying issues. Avoid consuming any medicines without a professional consult. Ayurveda offers supportive measures, but your health comes first.
