For managing keratoconus and dry eyes through Siddha-Ayurveda, an integrative approach might be beneficial, though always consult an ophthalmologist for serious eye conditions. To potentially alleviate dryness and support eye health from an Ayurvedic perspective, ghee-based eye treatments called Netra Tarpana can be considered. However, these must be done under supervision of a qualified practitioner, as improper application can worsen dryness.
For day-to-day relief, you could try using Triphala eye wash. Triphala is known for its benefits in improving eye health due to its rich antioxidant properties. You could take Triphala choorna (powder) and steep one teaspoon in boiled and cooled water overnight. In the morning, strain the liquid properly to ensure no solid particles remain and use it as an eye rinse. Do this daily, ensuring the water is completely clean and free from any residue.
In terms of diet, consuming foods rich in Vitamin A like carrots, spinach, and sweet potatoes can support eye health. Additionally, adding ghee to your diet could help pacify vata dosha, which may be a cause behind dry eyes.
Hydration is essential, so drinking adequate water supports overall eye lubrication. Limit screen time to reduce strain and practice eye exercises such as palming or focusing on distant objects to reduce fatigue.
While these practices may help, keratoconus is a progressive condition and proper medical supervision is essential as neglect could lead to worsening vision. Avoid delaying immediate medical care and chiefly use Ayurvedic measures as complementary support.
