how to make multani mitti - #44650
I am really curious about how to make multani mitti at home! I was reading about it and apparently, it's a great natural remedy for skin issues. I've had this weird patchy skin thing going on for a couple months, and my friend swears by multani mitti as a solution. She said it helped her with her acne - I mean, I’m not dealing with acne but my skin’s just not looking right, you know? Anyway, I tried looking for how to make multani mitti, but all I could find were these super complicated processes that just seemed to like over-complicate things. I wanna keep it natural and simple. Can I just mix it with some water? Or is there a specific way to prepare it? I read that it's a clay and can help absorb excess oil or something like that? Ugh, just thinking about it is stressing me out! Has anyone here actually made it themselves? What kinda base do I need? Like, do I have to let it sit for a while or can I just whip it up and slap it on my face? Would love to hear any insights on how to make multani mitti and if it really works for different skin types. Any advice would be really helpful!

Making multani mitti at home from scratch, isn’t actually practical. Traditionally, multani mitti, also known as Fuller’s Earth, is a naturally occurring clay and not something you make like a recipe. It’s typically sourced from specific regions where the clay is naturally found, and then processed to be safe for cosmetic use. So, unfortunately, you won’t be able to create it from basic household ingredients.
However, you can definitely buy multani mitti powder and make your own face packs or masks with it. For your patchy skin issue, which could hint at some imbalance, Ayurveda suggests using multani mitti in combination with other natural ingredients that suit your skin type. If you have oily skin, mixing multani mitti with rose water can be quite effective. Just take about 1-2 tablespoons of multani mitti powder, mix it with enough rose water to create a smooth paste, and apply it evenly on your face. Leave it on until it slightly dries—don’t let it get too dry as that can strip natural oils from your skin. Then, rinse it off with lukewarm water.
If your skin is more dry, blend multani mitti with milk or honey instead, which helps in maintaining moisture. The milk provides a soothing effect and moisture, while the honey offers hydrating and antibacterial benefits. Mix these with the clay in similar proportions as mentioned above.
Keep in mind multani mitti is absorbing in nature, so don’t overuse it—it can lead to excess dryness. Depending on your skin type, one to two times a week should suffice. Always test a small patch of skin first to ensure there’s no adverse reaction. As Ayurveda emphasizes balance, also consider overall lifestyle adjustments, moderate exposure to harsh weather or pollutants, and proper hydration, they can all contribute positively to addressing skin concerns.
