In cases like your daughter’s, where we are dealing with a power of 8.5 and astigmatism, it’s important to understand that Ayurveda primarily focuses on holistic well-being and balance rather than surgical interventions like laser eye surgeries. Essentially, Ayurveda can support eye health and overall wellness, but it isn’t a substitute for significant refractive errors correction like laser surgery, especially if a specialist advised against it.

For basic eye health, you might explore Ayurvedic practices which promote eye wellness. Start with incorporating Triphala as a daily practice, which is known for its benefits for eye health. Triphala can be taken in powdered form or as tablets, following the recommended dosage, usually before bed with warm water.

Additionally, including ghee or clarified butter in diet might be beneficial for the eyes. A time-honored method involves performing “Netra Tarpana,” where warm ghee is used in specialized settings for eye rejuvenation. However, this should only be done under the guidance of a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner.

Amalaki or Indian Gooseberry, another potent Rasayana (rejuvenator), supports eye health and may help in managing eye strain. Consuming it as fresh fruit, juice, or as part of Chyawanprash can be therapeutic.

For hypothyroidism, ensure the diet supports metabolic function. Focus on warm, cooked foods like soups, stews with spices like ginger, black pepper, and turmeric which enhance Agni, or the digestive fire. Sesame seeds and oil could also be beneficial due to their warming properties.

In the realm of lifestyle, encourage regular eye exercises and breaks if she works long hours on screens. Basic palming — gently cupping the eyes with warm palm, might alleviate eye fatigue. Ayurveda emphasizes reducing stress through practices such as meditation or gentle yoga, targeting calming the Vata dosha.

Remember, these suggestions can complement but not replace the critical medical treatments for eye power or thyroid conditions. Regularly following up with specialists in both areas is crucial.
