How can using flour for face treatments benefit my skin or help with specific issues? - #22294

Mateo

I am struggling with some skin problems, and I've heard some people talk about using flour for face treatments!! I'm not really sure where to start. So, I have oily skin and sometimes, it breaks out, which is super annoying. I've read that flour for face applications can actually help absorb excess oil and maybe even reduce acne, but I'm hesitant. Like, what type of flour are we talking about? I’ve seen different options like chickpea flour or even just wheat flour, and I really don’t know which is better! Also, is it better to mix it with something, like water or yogurt? The few times I tried to use flour for face purposes, I don’t think I mixed it right — kinda had a mess! And should I keep it on for a long time? Or just a few minutes?? I’m feeling a bit lost here, so any advice would be super appreciated!! It would be amazing if I could figure out, you know, what ingredients work best with flour for face masks or if there are any tips to avoid like a total flop. Thanks, guys!!

For your oily skin and occasional breakouts, using specific types of flour can truly be beneficial, and it's a common practice in Ayurveda for balancing such skin concerns. Given your conditions, chickpea flour, known as "Besan", can be particularly effective. It’s very absorbent and great at controlling excess oil on the skin, which might help with your acne issues as well. To make an effective face mask with chickpea flour, blend it with yogurt, which acts as an excellent base due to its lactic acid content, helping gently exfoliate the skin and reducing inflammation. Here's a simple way to prepare it: 1. Take two tablespoons of chickpea flour and mix it with a tablespoon of plain yogurt. Ensure the consistency is smooth, not too thick but not too runny either. 2. Optionally, add a pinch of turmeric for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Just a pinch is enough to avoid a temporary yellow stain. 3. Apply this mixture evenly on your face, avoiding sensitive areas like around the eyes. 4. Leave it on for about 15-20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Pat your skin dry gently; it's crucial not to rub aggressively as it might irritate your skin. In terms of frequency, aim to use this mask about twice a week. However, be observant; if your skin starts to feel too dry, reduce the application frequency. Also, if your skin is sensitive, always perform a patch test on a small area of your skin before applying the mask fully. As for wheat flour, it’s less commonly used alone in Ayurvedic skin treatments compared to chickpea flour, especially for oily skin. Avoid using too many ingredients at once, as it might lead to an imbalance and further irritate your skin. If an issue persists or worsens, consult with a healthcare professional to assess any underlying causes you might not be aware of. Your skin will thank you for the gentle care you take with these natural remedies!
