Doctors’ responses

Deciding whether to continue or stop thyroxine should ideally be guided by a doctor, as it involves understanding your health situation more comprehensively than just looking at TSH levels. Your current TSH of 5.4 is on the higher side of normal, so it may be helpful to keep monitoring it regularly while staying in touch with your healthcare provider. In Ayurveda, we focus on balancing the doshas and supporting overall endocrine health. Hypothyroidism is often linked to a kapha or vata imbalance, and it's essential to maintain a diet and lifestyle that promotes balance. Consider included the following Ayurvedic recommendations: For diet, try avoiding heavy, oily, and cold foods. Instead, focus on warm, light, and easily digestible meals. Incorporating spices like turmeric, black pepper, and ginger can help stimulate agni or digestive fire. These can be added to your cooking or taken as teas. Engage in regular physical activity, but gently. Yoga and pranayama are particularly beneficial in promoting circulation and stimulating thyroid function. Practices like Ujjayi breath and Surya Namaskar can be quite effective. Additionally, try performing an abhyanga or oil massage with warming oils like sesame or mustard. This practice helps in balancing kapha and improving circulation. Remember to minimise stress, as it can impact thyroid function. Incorporating meditation or mindfulness might be useful in maintaining mental clarity and emotional stability. While these suggestions may support thyroid health, they shouldn't replace medical advice. Your overall condition, lifestyle, dosha balance, and diet preferences are essential considerations, so making a plan with a healthcare provider is important. It's crucial to stay connected with your doctor regarding your medication, monitor your symptoms, and reassess your TSH levels regularly. They can provide a tailored approach and adjust your treatment plan as needed.
