How can Ayurvedic remedies like Ashwagandha help boost stamina and energy levels? - #23110

Samuel

I am really struggling with my energy levels lately, and I feel like I need to find ways how to increase stamina. I used to jog for 30 minutes every morning, but now I can barely manage 10 without feeling completely wiped out. I’ve tried different diets, but nothing seems to do the trick. My friend suggested Ayurvedic remedies and mentioned something about ashwagandha? Is that relevant when looking for ways how to increase stamina? Also, I've been feeling kind of low and lethargic. Any specific foods or routines you all recommend? It's frustrating not being able to keep up with my kids!

Thank you for reaching out this platform and trusting with your health journey from what you have mentioned that it seems your body is going through a case of depleted OJAS in Ayurveda-the essence that supports your vitality stamina, mental clarity and emotional balance. When O JAS is low, even small efforts can feel exhausting, moods dip easily and we feel disconnected from our usual self. Your previous ability to jog for 30 minutes now, reduce to 10 minutes with exertion shows that your system is asking for deep nourishment-not just surface level energy booster

Ashwagandha is indeed very relevant year. It is a RASAAYANA herb which means it is used to rebuild strength, and resilence from within… when taken properly, it can support your adrenal function, improves stamina, reduce stress, and balance your energy, but Ayurveda always believes in a holistic approach, not just relying on her, so let’s look at your routine and food

Start with regular meals, warm cooked and rich foods. Avoid cold food, Ross salads, and anything straight from the fridge have khichadi ghee shop, almonds, dates, warm milk with turmeric along with Ashwagandha churna 1/2 tsp at bedtime These nourish the tissues and restaurant energy gently use jaggery with a pinch of dry ginger after meals. If you crave sweets, it is grounding and energising

Abhyanga-a warm oil massage, especially with Bala-Ashwagandha oil or sesame oil will work wonders. Just 10 minutes before your bath can bring calmness restore your nervous system and improve circulation. Also prioritise sleep. Try to sleep before 10 PM. This is when the body repairs OJAS, even short nap during the day can be helpful.

Emotionally, you may be going through a VATA imbalance to feeling low and fatigued is often connected to a mind that hasn’t been. No reached alongside the body for this herbs like brahmi shankapushpa or even a teaspoon of brahmi ghee in the morning, can help lift the mind gently and improve clarity

Avoid exertion for now, your body is in a rebuilding phase, gentle yoga, slow, Surya namaskara, walking, barefoot, and grass and exposure to early morning far more good, then pushing yourself to meet your old stamina level too quickly

Most importantly, be kind to yourself when your energy dips, but your responsibilities, humanity is easy to become frustrated or feel like You’re not doing enough, but dealing with the right approach. You will only regain your strength. You will build a deeper more lasting stamina that flows through every area of your life, including being there for your kids with joy and energy. Let’s start gently and rebuild your vitality from within.

Feeling a decrease in energy and stamina can be quite frustrating, especially when it’s affecting your daily activities like playing with your kids or maintaining an exercise routine. In Ayurveda, low energy levels can often relate to an imbalance in your doshas, particularly vata and kapha doshas.

Ashwagandha is indeed relevant in such scenarios. It is a renowned adaptogen used in Ayurveda that helps the body manage stress, boost energy levels, improve stamina, and promote overall wellness. Ashwagandha supports agni (digestive fire), enhancing nutrient absorption, which plays a crucial role in maintaining energy. Taking ashwagandha root powder (about 1 teaspoon) in warm milk before bed can be beneficial. Do ensure you’re not lactose intolerant if consuming with milk.

Additionally, addressing diet and routine, favor warm, nourishing foods to balance vata. Cooked grains, such as brown rice or quinoa, root vegetables, and dal are excellent choices. Consider incorporating ghee in your meals for its grounding effect. Avoid raw foods which may increase vata dosha, leading to more fatigue.

A daily self-massage with sesame oil before showering can also assist with keeping energy levels up. This practice grounding excess vata and improving circulation, boosting your vitality.

In terms of routines, prioritize regulating your sleep schedule. Aim for seven to eight hours per night, ideally sleeping by 10 pm. Consistent wake-up and sleep times support your circadian rhythm, and regularity is key for stability in energy levels.

Hydration is crucial — aim for warm water throughout the day to maintain proper hydration without extinguishing digestive fire. Keep stress at bay with pranayama or meditation practices; they can significantly impact your overall energy levels and mood.

If despite these recommendations, energy levels remain stagnant, it’s important to consult with a healthcare professional to rule out underlying issues such as anemia or thyroid imbalances. Ayurveda works best when it fits into a comprehensive approach that considers all aspects of health.

I am someone who kinda started out in both worlds—Ayurveda and allopathy—and that mix really shaped how I see health today. My clinical journey began with 6 months of hands-on allopathic exposure at District Hospital Sitapur. Honestly, that place was intense. Fast-paced, high patient flow, constant cases of chronic and acute illnesses coming through. That taught me a lot about how to see disease. Not just treat it, but like… notice the patterns, get better at real-time diagnosis, really listen to what the patient isn’t saying out loud sometimes. It gave me this sharper sense of clinical grounding which I think still stays with me. Then I moved more deeply into Ayurveda and spent another 6 months diving into clinical training focused on Panchakarma therapies. Stuff like Abhyanga, Basti, Shirodhara—learned those not just as a list of techniques, but how and when to use 'em, especially for detox and deep healing. Every case felt like a different puzzle. There wasn’t always one right answer, you know? And that’s where I found I loved adapting protocols based on what the person actually needed, not just what the textbook says. Alongside that, I got certified in Garbha Sanskar through structured training. That really pulled me closer to maternal health. Pregnancy support through Ayurveda isn’t just about herbs or massage, it’s like this entire way of guiding a mother-to-be toward nourishing the baby right from conception—emotionally, physically, all of it. That part stuck with me hard. My overall approach? It’s kinda fluid. I believe in balancing natural therapies and evidence-based thinking. Whether it's seasonal imbalance, hormonal issues, Panchakarma detox plans, or just guiding someone on long-term wellness—I like making people feel safe, heard, and actually understood. I’m not into rushing plans or masking symptoms. I’d rather work together with someone to build something sustainable that really suits their body and where they’re at. In a way, I’m still learning every day. But my focus stays the same—use Ayurvedic wisdom practically, compassionately, and in a way that just... makes sense in real life.

Dr. Anirudh Deshmukh
I am Dr Anurag Sharma, done with BAMS and also PGDHCM from IMS BHU, which honestly shaped a lot of how I approach things now in clinic. Working as a physician and also as an anorectal surgeon, I’ve got around 2 to 3 years of solid experience—tho like, every day still teaches me something new. I mainly focus on anorectal care (like piles, fissure, fistula stuff), plus I work with chronic pain cases too. Pain management is something I feel really invested in—seeing someone walk in barely managing and then leave with actual relief, that hits different. I’m not really the fancy talk type, but I try to keep my patients super informed, not just hand out meds n move on. Each case needs a bit of thinking—some need Ksharasutra or minor para surgical stuff, while others are just lifestyle tweaks and herbal meds. I like mixing the Ayurved principles with modern insights when I can, coz both sides got value really. It’s like—knowing when to go gentle and when to be precise. Right now I’m working hard on getting even better with surgical skills, but also want to help people get to me before surgery's the only option. Had few complicated cases where patience n consistency paid off—no shortcuts but yeah, worth it. The whole point for me is to actually listen first, like proper listen. People talk about symptoms but also say what they feel—and that helps in understanding more than any lab report sometimes. I just want to stay grounded in my work, and keep growing while doing what I can to make someone's pain bit less every day.
