how to take chyawanprash - #24847

Natalie

I am really trying to figure out how to take chyawanprash correctly. Few weeks ago, I started feeling super fatigued, like no energy at all, and a friend suggested chyawanprash. They said it would be a great boost and I got this big jar from the store. I thought I’d just take a spoonful every morning like my pal said, but now I’m wondering if there’s like a specific time or maybe even a way I should be doing this? Do I take it before breakfast or after? Or does it matter? Also, I read somewhere that mixing it with milk makes it more effective—any thoughts on that? I had kinda weird digestion after I started, I guess just maybe my body adjusting, but I don’t know if that’s normal or not? I just want to make sure I’m absorbing all the goodness from it. So, if anyone can share how to take chyawanprash properly or any tips, that’d be super helpful! Thanks!!

Taking Chyawanprash effectively involves considering your dosha type and your body's needs. Generally, it’s ideal to take Chyawanprash in the morning, on an empty stomach or followed by warm water, which helps in absorption. You can take it before breakfast. A standard recommendation for adults is about 1-2 teaspoons daily, unless advised otherwise by a physician. Your body may need a little time to adjust to new supplements; the digestion issues could be part of that process. Mixing Chyawanprash with warm milk is indeed common in Ayurveda. Milk nourishes and enhances the effects of Chyawanprash because it is naturally sweet and grounding, which aligns well with the doshas Vata and Pitta. If, however, you have lactose intolerance, you might want to consume it with warm, herbal teas instead. If you’re experiencing digestive problems, it could be that the Chyawanprash is rekindling your Agni, or digestive fire, which is initially causing some disruption. Ginger tea or a pinch of salt with meals can stabilize this. Also, be cautious about taking it with a heavy breakfast, as that might further burden digestion. Check the ingredients for any potential allergens or additives that might be affecting you adversely. If the fatigue persists or exacerbates after taking Chyawanprash, considering seeing an Ayurvedic practitioner, they can offer more personalized guidance. Do observe your body’s signals as you continue using it. Some experience quick benefits, while others take a bit longer. Your energy levels should hopefully rise within a few weeks as its rejuvenating effects take hold; if not, it might be necessary to re-evaluate the dosage or the time of consumption.
