how to reach thekkady from chennai - #25706

Hailey

I am planning a trip from Chennai to Thekkady soon and really wanna know how to reach Thekkady from Chennai. I've been looking at different routes and options but it’s all a bit confusing. Like, should I take a bus or a train? I heard the train ride can be kinda scenic but then does it drop you closer to Thekkady? My friend told me about a bus service that goes directly, but I'm not sure if that’s the best way to go. Also, I’m traveling with my family and we have some luggage, which makes me wonder about taxi services or if I should consider renting a car! My cousin said he did that last time and loved it. What’s the drive like? I kinda wanna make a stop and see some sights on the way too, maybe some tea plantations or waterfalls... Would love any tips on how to reach Thekkady from Chennai or, I guess, even the best ways to enjoy the whole journey. Thanks in advance!

As a specialist in Ayurvedic medicine, practical travel advice falls outside my domain, but if you're considering your trip with family and the natural scenic routes, options like a train ride might certainly add some beauty to your journey, considering the lovely landscapes around Thekkady. However, train might not take you directly to Thekkady. You'd usually disembark at Kottayam or Madurai and continue by bus or taxi, so that option involves some changes and might require bit more planning, especially with family and luggage. For a more direct and leisurely voyage, renting a car could be an attractive alternative, especially since you mentioned wanting to enjoy sights along the journey. This allows for maximum flexibility with your stops—tea plantations and waterfalls can be wonderful breaks along the way. Driving gives you more control over your travel time and can be a pleasurable experience with beautiful scenery of Kerala's rolling hills and lush greenery. Arranging a taxi from Chennai all the way may not be the most practical or economical, as such long distance fares add up pretty quickly! If you're thinking about short distances, though, like from Kottayam or Madurai to Thekkady, a taxi could be more convenient. As for buses, direct ones do exist from Chennai to Thekkady but might take quite long time and need you to be ready for a longer travel period, which could be a bit tiring with family and luggage. Comfort may depend on the type of bus and operator, so checking reviews and ratings might help. To add more adventure to your journey without compromising on comfort, sharing the drive with a rented car sets a lovely pace without worrying much about missing stops. Plus, if Ayurveda's appreciation for nature resonates with you, a self-paced drive allows for spontaneous retreats into nature, surely enriching your travel experience to Thekkady.
