Dr. Snehal, Thank you for your quick response to my question related to essential thrombocythemia. The platelet count recently went up to 1 million. I am taking baby aspirin currently, and there is another blood work scheduled in January. I am hoping the platelet count reduces so I do not have to go into any aggressive treatment. I am 55 years old.

To address this condition, first focus on pacifying Pitta, which is linked with blood and inflammation. Consider adjusting your diet to include more cooling and calming foods. Consume lots of fresh fruits like pomegranate, apples, pear, and vegetables such as cucumber and leafy greens. Avoid large quantities of spicy, sour, and salty foods which can aggrevate Pitta.

Incorporating herbs like Guggulu can support the treatment of blood disorders. Trikatu, a combination of ginger, black pepper, and long pepper, can help in improving digestive fire but should be used cautiously, given its heating nature. It’s preferred to take them under the guidance of a qualified practitioner. Drinking lukewarm water throughout the day can further aid in cleansing the body.

Regular physical activity is quite important but avoid overly strenuous activities likely to create heat in the body. Gentle yoga and Pranayama (breath control exercises) are beneficial, particularly those focusing on cooling the body, such as Sheetali and Sheetkari.

Reduce stress as much as possible. Practices like meditation and yoga nidra can provide deep relaxation, helping manage mental stress that otherwise might worsen the condition.
