High S. Creatinine and low GFR, values, it’s best Stop all ayurvedic medicine, because kidney is showing very low function capacity, Best consultation with Nephrologist and follow his direction Meanwhile Take care on diet and water intake. Diet : should be very low salt, very low protein diet Water intake very less 800- 1000ml Per day as per doctor’s advice.

Since your creatinine was 5.97 before starting Ayurvedic medicines, this indicates towards advanced kidney disease. During this stage, kidney reserve is very limited and lab values will fluctuate even with small triggers. A rise to 6.78 within one week, with GFR from 12 to 11, can occur due to reduced fluid intake, recent change in diet ,constipation, stress, minor infections, lab variation, or the natural progression of kidney disease. This change alone does not conclusively prove that the medicines have caused permanent kidney damage.

when kidney function is this low, any medication either Ayurvedic or modern needs to be selected very carefully. Some Ayurvedic formulations are not appropriate in advanced kidney disease and can increase metabolic load or aggravate imbalance if given in routine doses. Therefore, it is appropriate to stop all Ayurvedic medicines for now until a clear review is done.

At this point, the priority is stabilisation and protection of remaining kidney function, not aggressive correction. Please continue regular follow up with your nephrologist, maintain fluid intake as advised, and avoid painkillers, protein excess, herbal self medication, and sudden diet changes.

You can share the names of the medicines and their ingredients here will clarify which medicines are not suitable at this stage and will guide you regarding safer options and whether Ayurvedic treatment should be kept on hold.

FIRST AND FOREMOST YOUR CURRENT LAB VALUES SHOW CREATININE 6.78AND GFR 11 ML/MIN THIS INDICATES SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION IN KIDNEY FUNCTION AND IT IS CRITICAL TO ADDRESS THIS URGENTLY

FIRST OF ALL STOP ALL AYURVEDIC OR HERBAL MEDICINES UNTIL CLEARED BY YOUR NEPHROLOGIST MANY HERBAL MEDICINES CAN AFFECT KIDNEY FUNCTION AND THIS MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE RISE

CONSULT A NEPHROLOGIST WITHOUT DELAY THIS LEVEL OF CREATININE AND LOW GFR REQUIRES EXPERT ASSESSMENT FOR POSSIBLE ACUTE ON CHRONIC KIDNEY INJURY AND TO PLAN THE NEXT STEPS INCLUDING MEDICATION ADJUSTMENT OR DIALYSIS IF NECESSARY

BRING ALL MEDICINES YOU HAVE BEEN TAKING INCLUDING AYURVEDIC PREPARATIONS TO YOUR CONSULTATION THIS WILL HELP THE DOCTOR UNDERSTAND ANY NEPHROTOXIC INGREDIENTS OR INTERACTIONS

STRICTLY REDUCE PROTEIN INTAKE AS ADVISED BY NEPHROLOGIST LIMIT SALT AND FLUID INTAKE ACCORDING TO DOCTOR AVOID HIGH POTASSIUM FOODS IF ADVISED AVOID ANY OVER THE COUNTER SUPPLEMENTS

MONITORING FREQUENT CREATININE AND GFR CHECKS AS ADVISED MONITOR URINE OUTPUT DAILY REPORT ANY SWELLING BREATHLESSNESS OR CONFUSION IMMEDIATELY DO NOT SELF MEDICATE OR CONTINUE ANY HERBAL MEDICINES UNTIL CLEARED BY A SPECIALIST THIS CAN WORSEN KIDNEY DAMAGE

PLEASE ARRANGE AN URGENT NEPHROLOGY APPOINTMENT TODAY AND TAKE ALL MEDICINES AND LAB REPORTS WITH YOU

IF YOU WANT YOU CAN SEND NAMES AND INGREDIENT OF THE AYURVEDIC MEDICINES SO THAT I CAN REVIEW THEM AND IDENTIFY ANY POSSIBLE KIDNEY TOXIC INGREDIENTS BUT THE PRIORITY IS IMMEDIATE MEDICAL EVALUATION

Whats your number to send you pictures?

Hello, I can understand how scary and disappointing this feels. Please take a deep breath — I’ll explain this to you honestly, safely, and step by step.

You already had advanced kidney disease, with creatinine 5.97 and eGFR ~12 (this itself indicates severe kidney impairment). After taking Ayurvedic medicines for one week, your creatinine increased to 6.78 and eGFR dropped to 11. Even a small change in medicines, diet, fluids, or salts can cause fluctuations at this stage.

👉 This does NOT mean your kidneys are permanently damaged because of one week of Ayurveda, but it does mean your kidneys are extremely sensitive right now, and anything heavy, heating, or inappropriate can push values up.

Yes — you can absolutely send pictures of the medicines. That will help me guide you much more accurately.

🚨 VERY IMPORTANT – FIRST STEPS STOP all Ayurvedic medicines for now Do not continue, do not restart, do not change dose Do NOT panic Creatinine fluctuations of 0.5–1.0 can happen in advanced CKD Continue your nephrologist’s medicines strictly Do NOT take painkillers (NSAIDs), herbal teas, powders, or detox drinks

🔎 Recommended Investigations (If not done in the last 2–4 weeks) 1.Serum Creatinine, Urea, Electrolytes (Na⁺, K⁺) 2.Urine routine & protein 3.Blood pressure log (daily) 4.Ultrasound KUB (if not done recently) 5.Review of all medicines and supplements taken in last 2 weeks

⚠️ These values help determine whether the rise is functional (reversible) or progressive.

What Likely Happened At your stage of kidney disease: Some Ayurvedic medicines can be too strong, heating, protein-heavy, or mineral-containing Even medicines that are “safe for others” can: Increase kidney workload Alter electrolytes Reduce effective filtration temporarily

This does not mean Ayurveda is always harmful, but it must be extremely gentle and individualized in advanced CKD. 💊 Medicines – CURRENT PLAN ❌ What NOT to take right now Guggulu preparations Metallic / mineral medicines Strong decoctions (kashayam) High-dose powders “Kidney detox” products

✅ Supportive Plan (ONLY AFTER NEPHROLOGIST AGREES) ⚠️ Do not start anything until values stabilise If allowed later, very mild, kidney-safe support only: 1.Guduchi (Giloy) – water extract only 250 mg once daily Only if potassium is normal Punarnava

👉 These are supportive, not curative, and only after review.

🥗 Diet & Lifestyle (CRUCIAL AT THIS STAGE) ❌ Strictly Avoid High-protein foods (unless advised otherwise) Herbal powders, tonics, juices Excess fruits / dry fruits Salt substitutes Outside food, packaged food Sudden diet changes

✅ Follow Renal Diet Protein as advised by nephrologist Controlled fluids Low potassium & low phosphorus foods Home-cooked, simple meals Same diet daily (no experimentation)

🧘‍♂️ Lifestyle Care Adequate rest Avoid dehydration Avoid fasting Avoid stress — stress hormones also affect kidney perfusion

🕉️ What to Expect Now If the rise is medicine-related, creatinine may settle or stabilise after stopping them At eGFR ~11–12, small fluctuations are common The goal right now is STABILITY, not aggressive treatment

* Important Reassurance Please remember: You did not do anything wrong One week of medicines does not destroy kidneys Your condition needs very cautious handling I am here to help you safely, not to push any system of medicine

✅ Next Step 📸 Please send clear photos of: All Ayurvedic medicines taken Latest lab reports (creatinine, electrolytes) Once I see them, I will tell you exactly: Which medicine may have caused stress What should never be taken again Whether any gentle support is possible later You are not alone in this. We will handle this calmly and safely.

Warm regards Dr.Sumi MS(Ayu)
