in india a bams doctor even with md ayurveda surgery is not legally permitted to independently perform major allopathic surgeries

however the situation is clarified as follows

a bams doctor with md ayurveda shalya tantra can assist observe and gain practical exposure in surgeries only under supervision of a qualified mbbs ms or md allopathic surgeon

they cannot independently operate perform major surgeries sign consent or be the primary surgeon in allopathic surgical procedures

even if they have trained for years under senior mbbs or md surgeons the law does not allow independent practice of major allopathic surgery

what they can legally do
perform ayurvedic surgical procedures described under ayurveda
assist in surgeries in hospitals as a surgical assistant where permitted
manage pre and post operative care under supervision
work in ayurvedic hospitals where surgical procedures are ayurvedic in nature

what they cannot legally do
perform major allopathic surgeries independently
represent themselves as allopathic surgeons
open a surgical practice for allopathic procedures

According to NCISM (National Commission for Indian System of Medicine) –
Scope of surgeries for MS (Shalya Tantra)
MS (Shalya Tantra) post-graduates are legally permitted to perform surgical and para-surgical procedures as per NCISM / Indian Medicine regulations, within their training and institutional setup.

Ksharasutra for Bhagandara (fistula-in-ano)
Fistulotomy / Fistulectomy
Arsha (Hemorrhoids):
Kshara karma
Agnikarma
Hemorrhoidectomy
Parikartika (Fissure-in-ano):
Lord’s dilatation
Internal sphincterotomy
Pilonidal sinus surgery
2. General surgical procedures
Incision & drainage of abscess
Excision of lipoma, sebaceous cyst, ganglion
Wound suturing and debridement
Sinus excision
Corn and wart excision
3. Para-surgical procedures
Kshara karma (chemical cauterization)
Agnikarma (thermal cauterization)
Jalaukavacharana (leech therapy)
Siravyadha (venesection)
4. Selected major surgeries (as trained during MS Shalya & permitted by institution/state rules)
Hydrocele
