Doctors' responses

Diospyros montana fruit is known traditionally in certain Himalayan regions and among forest dwelling communities and yes the ripe fruit has been consumed locally in small quantities especially when fully mature and soft From an ayurvedic point of view edibility depends strongly on ripeness quantity and individual digestive strength

When the fruit is fully ripe it is generally considered safe for people with strong digestion like yours and it is usually eaten occasionally rather than as a regular dietary fruit The unripe or semi ripe fruit should be strictly avoided as it can be very astringent and may cause throat irritation constipation or gastric discomfort

Since you have already consumed it occasionally without any reaction and you have excellent digestion it suggests your agni is able to tolerate it However moderation is important and it should never be eaten on an empty stomach or in large amounts It is best taken during the daytime and preferably after a light meal

From an ayurvedic safety perspective pregnant women children elderly people or those with weak digestion should avoid experimenting with wild fruits even if they are locally used Always ensure correct identification of the plant and avoid fruits collected from polluted or roadside areas
