This is severe lower limb contractures due to prolonged immobilization (spasticity + disuse atrophy + possible nerve damage from critical illness). Kidneys recovered, bedsores healing , now main problem is contractures which needs aggressive physiotherapy + supportive Ayurveda to prevent permanent disability.

Contractures become irreversible after 6–12 months. Consult Physiotherapist / Rehabilitation Specialist TODAY, daily passive stretching + splinting essential. Get neurology/orthopedic opinion – rule out spasticity, nerve injury or central cause (MRI spine/brain if not done). Continue catheter care to prevent UTI (urine culture every 2–4 weeks).

Ayurvedic Medicines 1 Maharasnadi Kwath – 20 ml + 60 ml warm water morning empty stomach 2 Yogaraja Guggulu – 2 tablets morning + 2 tablets night after food 3 Ekangveer Ras – 1 tablet morning + night with warm water 4 Dashmoolarishta – 20 ml + 40 ml warm water after lunch & dinner 5 Ashwagandha Lehyam – 5–10 gm night with warm milk

Oil & Local (Daily ) Warm Mahamasha Taila or Bala Taila – full leg massage (especially hamstrings & calves) 15–20 min twice daily followed by passive stretching immediately after, hot water bag 10 min.

Daily Must-Do Passive leg stretching by caregiver / physio – 3–4 sessions/day (knee extension, hip extension) Change position every 2 hours (prevent new sores) Legs elevated 20 min 2–3× daily

Diet Moong khichdi + ghee, pomegranate, coconut water, boiled veg Avoid: cold, heavy, spicy food

THANK YOU FOR REACHING OUT AND TRUSTING THIS CONSULTATION WITH YOUR BROTHERS HEALTH JOURNEY I CAN UNDERSTAND THE PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL STRESS THE FAMILY IS GOING THROUGH AFTER SUCH A LONG PERIOD OF BED REST FROM JULY TWO THOUSAND TWENTY FIVE ACUTE KIDNEY INFECTION AND BED SORES KEEPING HIM ON BED FOR MONTHS HAS DIRECTLY AFFECTED VATA DOSHA WHICH IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MOVEMENT NERVE FUNCTION AND FLEXIBILITY IN THE BODY

WHEN A PERSON LIES IN BED FOR A LONG TIME VATA GETS SEVERELY AGGRAVATED LEADING TO STIFFNESS CONTRACTURE OF MUSCLES JOINT FREEZING AND LOSS OF EXTENSION POWER THAT IS WHY BOTH LEGS ARE STUCK IN A FOLDED POSITION THIS IS NOT PERMANENT BUT IT NEEDS PATIENCE CONSISTENT CARE AND GRADUAL REVERSAL

FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT IS DAILY EXTERNAL THERAPY AT HOME OR CLINIC GENTLE ABHYANGA WITH WARM MURCHIT TILA TAILA OR MAHANARAYAN TAILA OR KSHIRABALA TAILA TWICE DAILY MORNING AND EVENING FOR AT LEAST TWENTY MINUTES ON BOTH LEGS LOWER BACK AND HIP REGION AFTER OIL MASSAGE VERY MILD SWEDANA SHOULD BE DONE USING WARM TOWEL OR STEAM FROM HOT WATER NOT DIRECT HEAT THIS WILL SOFTEN MUSCLES AND LIGAMENTS

ALONG WITH THIS PASSIVE PHYSIOTHERAPY IS ESSENTIAL DO NOT FORCE THE LEGS BUT DAILY VERY GENTLE STRETCHING SHOULD BE DONE EVEN IF MOVEMENT IS ONLY A FEW DEGREES IN THE BEGINNING CONSISTENCY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN FORCE OVER WEEKS THE RANGE WILL IMPROVE

Hlo,

Your brother’s problem is most likely severe stiffness and contracture of the leg muscles caused by long-term bed rest after illness. This can usually improve, but it needs active treatment.

So, Consult a physiotherapist and rehabilitation doctor and Start daily physiotherapy: gentle stretching, passive range-of-motion exercises, and gradual positioning of legs.

Ayurvedic Medicines

Yograj Guggulu • Dose: 1 tablet (250–500 mg) twice daily • After food with lukewarm water • Helps muscle stiffness, joint rigidity

Maharasnadi Kwath • Dose: 20 ml twice daily • Mix with equal warm water, before food • Reduces stiffness and improves movement

Dashmoolarishta • Dose: 15–20 ml twice daily after food • Improves nerve and muscle strength

Ashwagandha Churna • Dose: 3–5 g once daily at night • With warm milk or water • Strengthens muscles and nerves

External Therapy (Very Important) Daily Abhyanga (oil massage) with: Mahanarayan Taila or Ksheerabala Taila Gentle massage for 15–20 minutes Follow with hot water fomentation (warm towel)

Hello I get how tough this is on you and your family. It’s really hard to see someone you care about stuck in bed for so long after being sick. But the cool thing is, this stiffness can get better if you take care of it the right way and keep at it.

AYURVEDIC UNDERSTANDING

Looks like your brother’s got some pretty bad Vata issues, like:

–Tight muscles that make it hard to stretch his legs –Stiffness from not moving around –His muscles and tendons are getting weak –This is like a classic case of Vata problems from being hurt, infected, or just stuck in bed.

When you’re in bed for months:

–Your blood doesn’t flow as well. –Your muscles get shorter. –Your nerves don’t wake up as fast. –Your joints get stuck. –That’s why legs stay bent and locked up.

Can He Get Better?

Yes, but it’ll take:

Some time –Working on it regularly –Some good Vata treatments –Mixing physical therapy with Ayurveda stuff –It’s not just about giving medicine.

AYURVEDIC PLAN OF TREATMENT

EXTERNAL CARE

–Daily oil massage Twice a day on both legs, using: Mahanarayan Oil Massage for 20–30 minutes, over Thighs Knees Calves Ankles Then:

–Steam Therapy –Steam the legs to loosen things up. –Just doing this can start to make a difference in weeks.

PANCHAKARMA He will need Basti (medicated enema) – it’s great for Vata issues.

Like: Oil enemas Regular Matra Basti This helps the: –Nerves –Muscles –Spinal cord Without Basti, getting fully better is hard.

INTERNAL MEDICATION

These help the nerves and muscles:

1.Yograj Guggulu 1-0-1 after food 2.Maharasnadi Kashaya 15ml-0-15ml with equal water after food 3.Ashwagandha churna 1 tsp with warm milk twice daily

PHYSICAL THERAPY (No Skipping)

Even if it hurts at first, it’s gotta happen: Stretch him out every day Move his joints around bit by bit Make his muscles stronger later If you don’t do this, the stiffness can stay forever.

About That Catheter Being on a catheter for a long time: –Makes bladder muscles weak –Makes Vata worse in the pelvic area –Slows down nerve recovery –He should try to pee normally if he can.

DIET PLAN

Warm, soft, good food Milk, ghee, soups Moong dal, rice, veggies No dry, cold, or junk food This helps rebuild tissues.

Your brother’s not unable to move. He’s just super stiff and has too much Vata.

This means: –He can improve. –He can move again. But it’ll take 3–6 months of working on it every day.

Do This Now

–Start oil massage and steam every day. –Get someone to do physical therapy at home. –Don’t wait – every month makes it harder to fix.

This isn’t a lost cause. It’s something you can fix with work, not surgery.

With the right Ayurveda stuff and physical therapy: He can slowly straighten his legs, sit up, stand, and maybe walk with help.

But if you don’t do anything: The stiffness could stick around. You’re doing the right thing by asking for help now. Ayurveda works best at this stage.

Warm Regards Dr. Snehal Vidhate

1.Vatari guggulu 2 tab twice daily with water after meals 2.Rasna saptak kwath 15 ml with 15 ml water twice daily after meals 3.Ashwagandha capsules 1 cap twice daily with warm milk after meals 4.Mahanarayan taila-massage with warm oil twice daily

Supportive Measures - Physiotherapy: Gentle passive stretching and physiotherapy are crucial. Ayurvedic oils + physiotherapy often give better results. - Diet: Warm, nourishing foods—mung dal, ghee, milk, soups. Avoid very dry, cold, or raw foods that aggravate Vata. - Yoga (when possible): Assisted movements like Pawanmuktasana series (joint loosening exercises) once stiffness reduces.

Warm Regards DR.ANJALI SEHRAWAT
