Doctors' responses

Namaste, An atonic bladder means the bladder muscles are weak and unable to contract properly to pass urine. This can sometimes happen in older age due to nerve weakness or reduced bladder muscle tone. Simple measures that may help support bladder health: Encourage regular bladder training, where attempts are made to pass urine at fixed intervals. Maintain adequate hydration, but avoid very large amounts of fluids at one time. Gentle pelvic floor exercises may help support bladder muscle strength if your father is able to do them. Ensure regular bowel movements, as constipation can sometimes worsen bladder emptying problems. In elderly patients, recovery depends on the underlying nerve and muscle function. Some people may see gradual improvement with supportive care, while others may need long-term management. Ayurvedic medicines sometimes used to support urinary and bladder function include: Chandraprabha Vati – traditionally used to support urinary system health. Gokshuradi Guggulu – may help support bladder and urinary tract function. Since your father is 80 years old and currently on catheterization, treatment should be guided carefully along with a urologist’s supervision. Consult me for more advice and suggestions on the above medicines.
