Concerns About Side Effects of Arishtas - #51469
Do arishtas have any side effects? I had taken brahmidrakshadi kashyam, and another combination of 2-3 arishtas from Kottakal Branch Mumbai. Do they have any adverse effects? I developed acidity and gas issues because of this. I had taken it for stress, anxiety and long term insomnia. Can it cause any harm? If taken with homeopathy, kept a gap of an hour. Please guide me. thanks.

Namaste, Arishtas are fermented Ayurvedic formulations that are commonly used to support digestion, metabolism, and absorption of herbs. They are generally safe when taken in the correct dose and according to individual body type. However, in some people they may cause acidity, gas, or stomach irritation, especially if: The dose is higher than required. They are taken on an empty stomach. The person already has sensitive digestion or acidity tendency. Multiple arishtas are taken together for a long period. Since you developed acidity and gas after taking them, it may indicate that your digestion is reacting to the fermented formulation or the combination of medicines. Simple measures that may help: Avoid taking arishtas on an empty stomach unless specifically advised. Prefer lighter, easily digestible foods and avoid very spicy or sour foods. Manage stress and sleep, as both stress and insomnia can worsen acidity. Taking Ayurvedic medicines with homeopathy with a 1-hour gap is generally acceptable, but it is still better to review the complete treatment plan with one practitioner. Ayurvedic medicines sometimes used to support digestion and reduce acidity include: Avipattikar Churna – traditionally used to support acid balance and reduce burning sensation. Kamdudha Ras – sometimes used to help soothe gastric irritation. Consult me for more advice and suggestions on the above medicines.
