Hi! I’m an assistant to the Ask Ayurveda doctors. I’ve carefully reviewed your question.
I will explain your symptoms through the Ayurvedic perspective so you understand what is happening in your body as a whole.
The inability to gain weight after recovering from an illness can be viewed through the lens of Ayurveda as a potential imbalance in the body’s metabolic fire, Agni, which is essential for proper digestion and assimilation of nutrients. A weakened Agni may lead to insufficient nourishment and tissue development, known as “Dhatu Kshaya,” resulting in weight loss or difficulty in gaining weight.
Your recent illness might have depleted your body’s energy reserves, affecting your Vata dosha, characterized by dryness and lightness, which could be preventing you from gaining weight. Additionally, if there is any residual Ama (toxins) from your illness, it could be disrupting your digestion and absorption processes.
Ayurveda views this as a systemic imbalance rather than isolated symptoms. The focus is on strengthening your Agni, nourishing your tissues, and ensuring that your diet and lifestyle support these goals.
