how to remove heat from body - #36005

I am really struggling with this constant feeling of heat in my body. For the last few months, it feels like I’m always hot, even when others are comfortable. I've tried staying hydrated and moving to cooler spaces, but nothing really helps. My skin seems more red than usual, and I find myself sweating buckets for no good reason, even just sitting at work. It's super annoying and sometimes makes me feel light-headed. I read somewhere about how to remove heat from body through natural methods, but honestly, I’m not sure where to start. Maybe it's my diet? I've been eating lots of spicy food for a while now, thinking it would be fine, but now I’m starting to think that could be part of the issue. Also, I work out regularly, which I thought was good for my health, but maybe that’s adding to the heat too? If anyone could share some tips on how to remove heat from body, that would be amazing! I heard about certain herbs or foods that might help? Anything that can seriously take this uncomfortable heat down a notch would be great, because I’m just tired of feeling this way. Help!!!

Addressing the sensation of excess heat in the body requires a careful balance of food, lifestyle, and understanding your dosha constitution. In Ayurveda, feeling excessively hot may be linked to an imbalance in pitta dosha, which governs heat, metabolism, and transformation in your body. Here’s how you might tackle this naturally:

1. First, assess your diet. You mention consuming a lot of spicy food - this could certainly exacerbate a pitta imbalance. Try to minimize intake of pungent, sour, and salty tastes, and introduce more cooling foods. Consider incorporating sweet, bitter, and astringent flavors, which are more pitta-pacifying. Foods like cucumbers, melons, coconut, zucchini, and cilantro can be cooling. Replace hot spices with cooling herbs such as cilantro and mint, if possible. Keep hydrated with coconut water or buttermilk.

2. When it comes to your routine, consider your surroundings and activities. Working out is typically beneficial, but intense exercise might amplify heat. Opt for cooler activities like swimming or a relaxed yoga routine–calming practices can help to counterbalance the internal heat.

3. Specific Ayurvedic herbs can also be helpful. Herbs like neem, guduchi, and amla are traditionally used to cool down the body. You can take them as powders mixed with water or Ayurvedic teas. Introduce these gradually to see how your body reacts.

4. Practicing pranayama (breath control) exercises can assist in reducing heat. Try ‘Sheetali Pranayama’ – a cooling breath technique: Sit in a comfortable position, roll your tongue and breathe in slowly through it, feel the cool air entering your body, then exhale normally through your nose. Practicing this daily can help reduce heat sensation.

5. While most of these activities- and practices are generally safe, it’s always good practice to consult with an Ayurveda practitioner for personalized advice, especially if the heat sensation persists, or if there’s any associated weight loss or persistent skin issues.

Balancing your pitta dosha requires time and adjustment, so give your body a chance to respond and adapt to these changes.

Managing body heat effectively involves addressing the underlying imbalance, which, from a Siddha-Ayurvedic perspective, often relates to excess Pitta dosha. Your symptoms of overheating, excessive sweating, and skin redness align with Pitta imbalances, frequently exacerbated by spicy foods and intense exercise. Here’s how you can start cooling things down.

First, dietary adjustments can play a crucial role. Reduce intake of spicy, oily, and fried foods. Instead, focus on incorporating naturally cooling foods such as cucumbers, melons, and leafy greens. Coconut water is particularly effective given its cooling properties—try drinking a glass daily, preferably in the morning. Also, limit caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine as these can aggravate Pitta.

Next, consider herbal aids like Guduchi or Amalaki. These are known for their cooling and anti-inflammatory benefits. Amalaki juice can be consumed in the morning, diluted with water. Guduchi can be taken in capsule or powdered form, preferably with warm water, but it’s advisable to consult an Ayurvedic practitioner for personalized dosages.

Incorporating calming practices, such as mindfully settings time aside for cooling breaths and stretching, will help soothe the mind and body too. A practice such as Shitali Pranayama, characterized by a cooling breath through a curled tongue, might offer relief- perform it daily for 5 minutes.

Exercise is a valuable part of maintaining health, but consider reducing intensity and opting for evening workouts when temperatures are lower. Light yoga with focus on poses like Shavasana (Corpse Pose) and cooling postures will be beneficial.

Monitor your symptoms closely, especially light-headedness. If symptoms persist or worsen, a consult with a healthcare provider is recommended to rule out underlying conditions. Remember, ayurveda works best when it’s part of comprehensive, personalized plan tailored to your unique constitution and lifestyle.
