Here is a structured Ayurvedic management plan, along with necessary medical precautions.
1. Immediate Hemostatic Oral Medications (Shamana Chikitsa)
To control the prolonged bleeding, formulations with Kashaya (astringent), Tikta (bitter), and Sheeta (cooling) properties are highly effective:
Pushyanuga Churna: This is one of the premier classical formulations for Asrugdara.
Dosage: 3 grams (approx. half a teaspoon) twice a day.
Anupana (Vehicle): It must ideally be taken with Tandulodaka (rice-washed water) mixed with a teaspoon of honey. Rice-washed water is exceptionally Sheeta (cooling) and enhances the hemostatic action of the herb.
Ashokarishta: A well-known uterine tonic made from the bark of the Ashoka tree (Saraca asoca), which balances Pitta and tones the endometrium.
Dosage: 15 to 20 ml with an equal quantity of lukewarm water, twice daily, after meals.
Bola Parpati: A classical herbo-mineral preparation specifically indicated in cases of acute, prolonged uterine bleeding.
Dosage: 125 to 250 mg twice a day, mixed with honey or a small spoonful of clarified butter (Ghee).
3. Crucial Dietary & Lifestyle Modifications (Pathya-Apathya)
Because Pitta is the primary culprit behind the increased volume and duration of bleeding, the diet must be strictly cooling and stabilizing.
What to Favor (Pathya):
Ghee: Incorporating a spoonful of pure cow’s ghee in meals helps pacify both Vata and Pitta, providing stability to the uterine tissue.
Cooling liquids: Fresh coconut water, barley water (Yava text), and milk.
Grains & Vegetables: Old rice, mung dal, bottle gourd (Lauki), ridge gourd (Torai), and pomegranate.
Complete Rest: Total physical and mental rest is essential. Physical exertion further aggravates Apana Vayu and increases bleeding.
What to Avoid Completely (Apathya):
Pitta-aggravating foods: Strictly avoid spicy, deeply fried, highly salty, and sour foods (like pickles, curd, and vinegar).
Warm-potency herbs/spices: Avoid garlic, ginger, asafoetida (Hing), mustard seeds, and excessive red chili.
Stimulants: Stop the intake of tea and coffee entirely, as they increase internal heat and vascular flow.
15 days of post-period heavy bleeding is not normal and needs proper gynec evaluation. Most likely causes: Hormonal imbalance (very common, especially if already on hormonal medicines) Uterine issues like polyp/fibroid Medication side effect What to do now: Do NOT ignore or self-medicate further Get pelvic ultrasound + CBC (Hb level) Consult gynecologist urgently if bleeding is heavy or fatigue is increasing Support until check-up: Rest and avoid heavy work Iron-rich diet (dates, beetroot, greens) Hydration and light meals Important: If soaking pads quickly, dizziness, or weakness occurs → urgent hospital visit Ayurvedic supportive option (only after doctor review): Ashokarishta – 15 ml twice daily after food Lodhrasava – 10–15 ml twice daily But first priority is identifying the cause medically, because prolonged bleeding can lead to anemia.
