Go for Tarpan treatment
Cataracts can definitely be a bit unnerving. So, you’re asking about your mom’s eyesight and looking for a natural approach. First off, cataracts, as you might know, are like a clouding of the lens in the eye—it can really mess up clear vision, especially with things far away not looking too clear, just like your mom mentioned.
When it comes to Ayurveda, we like to consider the whole body. Since cataracts could be linked to Dosha imbalances, particularly Pitta and Kapha, it’s worth thinking about balancing those. Even though surgery is a traditional recommendation—and sometimes it becomes non-negotiable as cataract progresses—Ayurveda might help slow progression and support recovery or overall eye health.
Diet wise, stress on Pitta-soothing foods. Things like cucumber, coriander, fennel, all seem mild, but help cool down any Pitta imbalances. Have her eat plenty of fresh, seasonal vegetables—pretty much goes without saying but gotta emphasize! Turmeric, wow, it’s really brilliant. You can add a pinch to her meals, as it’s anti-inflammatory.
There’s also this triphala churna, which has ancient roots in keeping eyes happy. She can try half a teaspoon mixed in warm water at bedtime. Honestly, not the most delightful taste! And yeah, have her include ghee in her diet—like a teaspoon each morning. It’s said to nourish all tissues, including those in the eye.
Gently washing her eyes with water infused with coriander seeds… Works wonders sometimes. Just soak some overnight and strain in the morning. It sounds basic but helps clear the littlest irritations!
But! Please be mindful of safety. If the cataracts are hampering usual daily activities significantly or worsening, getting the surgery consultation (as her doctor recommended) is crucial. And surgeries have come a long way, she can often regain clarity post-op. Always listen to physicians, specially in progressive cases.
She should also protect her eyes from strain. Wearing sunglasses even indoors with bright screens, and limiting screens could help reduce discomfort too. Encourage complete relaxation, a stress-free environment is gold!
Supporting her with meditation or even simple pranayama, can indirectly help by managing overall stress levels.
Remember, Ayurveda shines in prevention and support—do keep integrating traditional medical advice with holistic approaches for a fuller spectrum of health care for your mom!
