Bleeding Gums - #22035

Hello! I've noticed that since past few days, my gums bleeding on just pressing. I am very hygienic and follow a strict dental routine including brushing thrice with a soft bristles tooth brush. I'm perplexed as to why is this even happening in the first place. I'm very healthy with no underlying health conditions or diseases.

Bleeding gums can sometimes catch you off guard, especially when oral hygiene seems to be in check. In Ayurveda, gums bleeding is often linked to imbalances, particularly involving the Pitta dosha. Although you’re maintaining a thorough dental care routine, it’s possible that an internal factor is contributing to this issue. Stress, spicy or acidic food, and even seasonal changes can sometimes provoke Pitta, leading to gum sensitivity or bleeding.

Let’s start by considering diet adjustments. Reducing Pitta-aggravating foods may prove beneficial. Try to limit your intake of spicy, fried, and excessively salty or sour foods. Instead, opt for cool, hydrating and naturally sweet foods like cucumbers, melons, coconut water, and a bit of ghee. These can help balance excess Pitta. Including more raw fruits and vegetables like apples and carrots, which can naturally clean the teeth and gums, helps in maintaining oral health.

Herbal remedies can also support your gums. Rinsing your mouth with a herbal decoction such as Triphala or Yashtimadhu (licorice) water can soothe gum inflammation and promote healing. Prepare a mild decoction by boiling a tablespoon of Triphala powder or Yashtimadhu in a cup of water, let it cool, and use it as a mouthwash twice daily.

Consider incorporating oil pulling into your routine. Swishing a tablespoon of sesame or coconut oil around your mouth for 10-15 minutes, preferably in the morning, can significantly improve oral hygiene. Spit it out and rinse well. This practice might help in reducing gum sensitivity over time.

You mention no other health issues, but if the gum bleeding persists despite these changes, it’s crucial to consult a healthcare professional. It might be worth checking Vitamin C levels, as deficiency can sometimes be linked with such symptoms. Additionally, please ensure there are no signs of gum infection, like persistent redness or swelling, which may need immediate medical attention.
