HELLO SAMPADA,
1) DOSHA INVOLVEMENT -PITTA= causes inflammation, burning, and hyperacidity , nasal mucosal sensitivity and reflux -VATA= causes dryness, blockage (due to dryness and constriction rather than mucus), nerve pain and disturbed circulation -KAPHA= contributes to congestion, sinus mucous buildup when combined with pitta
2) SROTAS (CHANNELS) AFFECTED -PRANAVAHA SROTAS= nasal passages, sinuses -SHRVANENDRIYA= eutaschian tube and ear canal -ANNAVAHA AND RASAVAHA SROTAS= digestion and circulation (root cause)
Long term Otrivin use also leads to “rebound rhinitis” , where the nasal mucosa swells again once the effect wears off- trapping you in a cycle
STEP 1=STOP/REBALANCE THE OVERUSE OF OTRIVIN You cannot stop it abruptly. Reduce use gradual over 3-4 weeks
-WEEK 1-2= use only once daily - night -WEEK 3-4= switch to Ayurvedic or saline alternatives –use Anu taila –use saline nasal spray= lukewarm distilled water + pinch of rock salt
STEP 2= NASAL CARE
MORNING ROUTINE
1) STEAM INHALATION -use plain water or add a pinch of Ajwain or Tulsi leaves - 5-7 minutes daily, especially in cooler weather
2) SALINE RINSE= if no drynss -lukewarm water + pinch of rock salt + a drop of ghee -perform 2-3 times a week
3) NASYA THERAPY -use Anu taila - classical Ayurvedic medicated oils -warm slightly and instill 2 drops in each nostril after bath, lying flat -Avoi during acute cold, fever, or immediately after meals
If he feels too much heat, use cow ghee or ksheerbala taila instead for gentle effect
STEP 3= EAR CARE Once nasal congestion improves , the Eustachian. tube will normalise but locally, he can apply -EAR OILING= 2 times a week -warm Bilva Taila -instill 2 drops in each ear, lie sideways for 5 minutes -then wipe gently with cotton
This helps balance vata and soothes chronic dull ear pain
STEP 4= DIGESTIVE AND SYSTEMIC BALANCING Since he has pitta aggravation + mild vata, avoid heating herbs. use cooling and balancing ones
-AVIPATTIKAR CHURNA= 1 tsp with warm waterr after meals for acidity and reflux
-YASHTIMADHU CHURNA= 1/2 tsp with warm milk twice daily for soothing throat and ear
-GUDUCHI + AMALAKI = 500mg each twice daily after meals to reduce inflammation and support immunity
-NASYA COMPANION= TRIPHALA GUGGULU= 1 tab twice daily- sinus congestion
STEP 5= DIET AND LIFESTYLE
DIET -favour= warm, freshly cooked, slightly oily, mildly spiced food -avoid= sour, fermented, deep fried, spicy and heavy dairy foods -avoid late dinners and lying down soon after eating -hydrate with warm water or cumin fennel coriander tea
LIFESTYLE -Pranayam= anulomvilom and bhramari daily -sleep early before 10:30 pm -avoid exposure to cold air and pollution directly on face -gentle oil massage weekly with sesame oil
STEP 6- OPTIONAL PANCHAKARMA (if feasible ) If chronic congestion persists despite home management, -VIRECHANA for long term pitta vata balance -Karna purana for persistant ear head discomfort
DO FOLLOW
HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL
THANK YOU

For your husband’s condition, an approach focusing on balancing Pitta and calming Vata dosha while addressing nasal blockage and ear discomfort can be beneficial. Given his Pitta constitution with some Vata aggravation, using gentle, cooling, and soothing remedies would be appropriate.
First, consider performing Nasya therapy, an Ayurvedic practice involving the administration of medicinal oils through the nostrils. Anu Taila is traditionally used for nasal blockages and can help relieve congestion and improve sinus health. In the morning, after oral hygiene, he can inhale 2-3 drops of Anu Taila while lying on his back. It’s vital to do this in a calm environment.
Incorporating steam inhalation with a few drops of eucalyptus or peppermint oil before bed can also help open nasal passages. Boiling water, add oils, and inhale deeply, being mindful to keep a safe distance to avoid burns. This should be done no more than once daily.
For the ear pain persisting post-infection, practicing gentle Abhyanga or self-oil massage can assist in balancing Vata. Use warm sesame oil or Mahanarayan Oil and gently massage the ears, temples, and neck area. This should help ease tension and improve circulation. Caution is crucial, avoid putting oil inside the ears unless under professional guidance.
A dietary focus on calming both Pitta and Vata is vital. Encourage meals that are cooling, unctuous, and easy to digest. Include foods like cucumbers, zucchinis, parsley, and cilantro. Avoid overly spicy, oily, or acidic foods that may aggravate his condition.
If possible, lifestyle adjustments like regular yoga or pranayama can significantly aid in managing his dosha imbalances. Simple practices like extending breaths (Anuloma Viloma) are calming and beneficial.
Lastly, ensure medical consultation if his symptoms of ear pain persist or worsen, as underlying conditions need a detailed examination. Regular check-ups can reassure and address any serious issues timely.

Lifestyle & Diet Tips - Avoid cold, dry, or spicy foods. - Include ghee, cooked vegetables, and coriander-fennel tea. - Practice gentle yoga and pranayama (especially alternate nostril breathing). - Keep ears covered in wind or AC environments.
- Ayurvedic therapies like Shirodhara or Nasya Panchakarma may offer deeper relief under supervision.
Hello Sampada Start with Yastimadhu churan 1tsp twice daily after food with honey Giloy ghanvati 1-0-1 after food with water Do Nasya with Anu tel 2drops in both nostril once daily Steam inhalation twice daily with eucalyptus oil few drops. Pranayam lom -vilom bhastrika kapalbhati daily for 5-10mins twice Night have warm haldi doodh.
For your husband’s nasal blockage and ear pain, let’s consider an approach aligned with his Pitta constitution while mindful of current Vata aggravation. Chronic nasal blockage, especially if aggravated by urban living, can often be related to excess Kapha accumulation. Otrivin provides temporary relief but may exacerbate the condition with long-term use.
Start with nasyam, a gentle nasal therapy. Daily, apply 2-3 drops of Anu taila in each nostril. This traditional oil can help clear and lubricate nasal passages, releasing Kapha accumulation while soothing the nasal mucosa. Encourage him to perform this in the morning and evening for consistent results. Ensure he remains upright for a few minutes post-application, inhaling deeply.
For managing the ear pain after the post-Covid effect, warming sesame oil, known for calming Vata, may help. He can apply warm sesame oil to the outer ear, gently massaging it. Avoid putting anything directly inside the ear canal without further examination by a physician if the pain persists.
Given his Pitta nature, opt for Trikatu churna with care. Though it’s a typical choice for decongestion, it may increase acidity. Instead, introduce cooling herbs like Guduchi to balance Pitta and bolster the immune system post-infection. Combining Guduchi powder with honey might provide soothing qualities internally.
Encourage continued hydration with warm, non-caffeinated teas, such as coriander or fennel tea, to keep his digestive fire (agni) balanced and prevent reflux. Finally, reducing exposure to allergens or irritants in the environment through regular dusting and use of air purifiers could also support overall respiratory health.
If symptoms persist or worsen, especially the ear pain, he must seek further medical evaluation to rule out underlying conditions, which could require targeted intervention.
