my hair is falling too much - #37031
I am really worried because my hair is falling too much lately. Like, I never thought this would be a problem for me! Around six months ago, I started noticing more strands on my pillow and in the shower, but recently it feels like it’s getting worse. I thought it was just stress from work or maybe the weather? Last month, I even tried some over-the-counter shampoos, but they didn’t help much. I read about how diet could affect this too, and I did change my eating habits, but I’m honestly unsure if it's enough. My hair is falling too much, and I can see my scalp more than I’d like – it’s sort of freaking me out! I’m 28 and healthy, or at least I thought so. No major health issues, but I do have a family history of thinning hair so I guess that could be it? Is there something in Ayurveda that could help? I’ve heard about herbal remedies and oils for hair loss. I'm desperate! My hair is falling too much even when I just brush it lightly, and it’s making me feel self-conscious. What should I try first? Any specific herbs or natural treatments you would recommend? Thank you for any advice, I really appreciate it!

Hair fall can indeed be distressing, especially when noticed suddenly. To approach this from an Ayurvedic perspective, we need to remember that hair health is closely tied to your body’s internal balance and overall health. It is often due to an imbalance in the doshas, primarily Pitta, and can also be associated with poor nourishment or stress affecting other aspects of the body.
Firstly, let’s address potential dietary adjustments. Incorporating foods that are Pitta-pacifying may help. Opt for cooling, nourishing foods like cucumbers, melons, ghee, and fresh coconut. These can help calm any excess Pitta causing your hair loss. Additionally, amla (Indian gooseberry) is well-regarded in Ayurveda for its beneficial properties in strengthening hair and slowing down hair loss. You could take amla juice or powder daily as a supplement.
Traditional herbal remedies such as Bhringraj oil, renowned for its hair-rejuvenating properties, can be used. You can apply the oil directly to the scalp, massaging gently. This process nourishes hair roots and encourages growth. Leave the oil in for at least 30 mins before washing with a gentle, herbal-infused shampoo.
When dealing with stress, managing cortisol levels is crucial. Practicing regular yoga or meditation can make a genuine difference in reducing stress levels that may contribute to your symptoms. Dwelling into Pranayama, particularly Sheetali and Sheetkari, might also support in balancing your inner core.
Consider lifestyle factors as well. Geting adequate sleep is essential, aim for at least 7-8 hours of restful sleep each night to promote effective bodily rejuvenation. Also, regular aerobic exercises can aid in improving blood circulation which is essential for hair growth.
While herbs and dietary recommendations are helpful, check for underlying health issues that might be affecting your hair loss. A consultation with a healthcare professional or Trichologist who understands Ayurvedic medicine would provide a more comprehensive analysis of your personal condition. If this hair loss is sudden and severe, I would advise seeking advice to rule out any medical conditions.
Ayurveda can offer support, but don’t hesitate to pair it with guidance from a modern healthcare perspective, primarily when a significant family history of it too. Reviewing your family history of thining hair and discussing your overall health with a professional might provide further insight.
